    just...everything

leaving lights on all over the place, losing keys i give them, not following written instructions for the house, asking for specific foods that i buy then not eating them....

i should mention these are "family friends" not my closest friends.

    That twinge in your intestines
House guests are like fish - after three days they stink, and should be thrown out.

I don't keep the shitty friends. So mine are all wonderful.

It helps if you gut them when they first arrive.

The only thing bad about my last houseguest, was that he had to leave :frown1:

Of course it helps that I have a locked stainless steel freezer in my garage and leave the chainsaw out in plain view, bwahahahaa

    Yikes! Flashy.

The last house guest I had, cleaned up after himself, after taking a shower the bathroom was spotless, the sink was cleaned etc.

    I cannot complain.

Poor Flashy :( Something for your nerves perhaps? LOL

I like having house guests in Hawaii. I have much more room there than in NYC.

I love having house guests.....but "my" guests...not others.
To me, having house guests is a great pleasure and I get lots of enjoyment
out of hosting them...and....if they are not familiar with NYC, showing them
around my home town. I never get tired of it.
Btw, I don't have friends whom I invite, that would not be good house guests.

    Yeah,
Flashy....some can be real downers......and not guests at all but "pests guests."

I learned a long time ago, to not do "others" favors by taking in "their" guests. It
usually turns out that the reason why they "farm" their guests out...is that they
have had them visit them before..and know something they are not telling you.
So, they don't want to host them either..because they know they are bad house
    guests. :yup:

Hope your "pests guests" will be gone soon..

sorry flashy - obligatory houseguests that are not with your program are distressing to be sure. sorry you had that stress.
you have nothing to fear by letting them know that if they are not going to use a light, that they can turn it off. you have nothing to worry about by mentioning that the food you got for them should be used or suggest a meal that could use that food. there is nothing wrong with telling them to NOT LOOSE their keys. ugh.
its OKAY to bring their attention to how you run YOUR household. they are guests. as much as you think they should know what to do and how to do it and how you do it -
clearly they don't, so its okay to be honest and tell them "don't loose your keys today and...." and not make a big deal out of it. house guests are like little kids that need to know what the boundaries are. once they know what you expect of them they will happily comply.
i hope you let them know what you would like them to do. as a houseguest, i appreciate it when the host or hostess lets me know something about the running of the household that is important to them and i will do it.

Even if they are family friends, you should be able to speak to them frankly enough about adhering to the house rules. The next time you get the call that "we're coming to visit!" perhaps you will respond "oh no you're not!". Recommend a hotel where they can stay if they need to be in town for any overnight accommodations. No will have to be no, family friends or not. Hope your misery ends sooner than later.
