Actually, some curvature is helpful as the path from your lips to your deep throat is curved. If it curves downward it's perfect for deepthroating while on your knees. From my own not inconsiderable experience I'd have to say that super_crayon's advice is right on the money, i.e. learn to swallow with your mouth open.
