Biologically he's the father. He didn't know for sure that donating his sperm would not implicate him in the future lives of his children, given that he should have found out his legal obligations to the children prior to agreeing to donate.

That being said I think the women who brought the children up should be financially obligated as well as the biological father.
As a tax payer I'm fucked off with being a surrogate dad to thousands of children from failed relationships. I have no problem with parents paying for the well being of their children, even if they can't be bothered.

Do not donate sperm if it bothers you that one day your biological offspring may come knocking!

*Although* the man signed a document confirming he was the biological father of the children,

... when the women separated, the biological mother of the three boys demanded child support payments from the man.

That should say because he signed that document she was able to demand child support payments for the children. He set himself up for a fall.

You're a Swedish lawyer? Huh. Had no idea.

Legally speaking he directly copulated. While I didn't read it closely enough to see if he had documentation against said paternal responsibility if he doesn't he's not free of obligatory child support. He actually, in the eyes of the law, simply abandoned his child(ren) with other people.

There was no legal adoption etc. making the using the law to interject at this point foolish.
