Being a moderator's a pain in the arse, I've been in a position where I had to recruit moderator's and one of my main criteria was never to make anyone a moderator who wanted to be one - that was always a sure sign they were going to turn into power mad despots

I never killed anyone haha, although I love that show Dexter and while watching with some friends they noticed my personality is somewhat similar to his. As for the original thing about posts, look at my count. I had very few when I was appointed, but then again I was admittedly the least active of the mods. Which doesn't necessarily mean I did less than they did, because they're all extremely devoted and hard to keep up with.

I've been asked to mod at forums elsewhere, and it just doesn't seem worth it. One place, I was given mod status and never used it. Just being the babysitter doesn't seem to be something I want to do, here or in the real world.

And no, asking won't do anything.

At present we are on our third wave of moderators. They had moderators once upon a time, then a period of none, then there was an enormous influx of new members which generated a call for moderators again. Many of those moderators asked to step down or had less opportunity to visit the site so the site owner, Rob_E, created a thread for applicants who were interested. The current group were selected from those applicants.

From the most recent group we have had three step down. I don't know if Rob intends to keep the current number, expand or decrease or even eliminate the moderators entirely. If there is a call for more moderators Rob_E will likely either contact those he feels would be good for the site or he will have another application thread.

Please don't send the mods PMs asking for the position, it isn't our call. And I daresay flooding Rob_E with requests will thrill him. It wouldn't thrill me.
