One thing I cannot get over, which continues to piss me off beyond belief (pardon the pun) is this stupid assumption that all "religion" has something to do with one's point of view on "God" or deity or any of that personal supreme being bullshit. The latin roots of the word "relgion" come from the general prefix "re-" which just means "again" or "repeat" and utlimately "ligare" which means "to bind" so religion is that which rebinds you, a source of a pattern in life. In this sense, materialism or unquestioning belief in the neoliberal picture of the global market is just as much a religion as Christianity or Islam or...wait, we ignore an entire majority of the world...what of the more flexible pictures of deity in the wildly diverse Hindu world, or the beliefs of the non-authoritarian believers of many non-Indo-European, more akin to shamanistic, traditions. And finally, what of this huge "religion" which has probably historically influenced just as many people and peoples, historically, as much as if not more than Christianity, which is called Buddhism....
