I've always heard it's pretty key. I've long thought I had high testosterone due to my strong sex drive, even in my 50s. Fortunately, it doesn't seem like my T levels are abnormally high since I don't have the symptoms. I talked with my (female) doc once, wondering if high T could be the cause of my sex drive. The discussion got pretty graphic, which turned me on since she's hot lol...anyway, I don't know what my T levels are since it was never tested.

Libido=nitric oxide levels .

Well, having higher testosterone leads to higher DHT and higher estradiol levels and these by-products stimulate nitric oxide production.

but if you have genes that suck at producing nitric oxide regardless of your testosterone levels then your libido will still be subpar.

Very good points. DHT is the key to libido hence why Proviron works magic, its a direct DHT derivative. Of course your base testosterone has to be high

It’s very important for sexual development and libido. Men with low testosterone or hypogonadism require replacement therapy typically either a gel applied to the shoulders or a intramuscular injection Nebido which is typically given every 3 months, but can be every 6 weeks. Main symptoms include reduced sex drive, diminishing morning erections and inability to maintain an erection.

I've been doing testosterone injections for 10 years (started when I was 52). It's not cut and dried...
I went to my doctor originally for Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). I was starting to have panic attacks that were a bit overwhelming. I was also not feeling sexual but that was not why I was there...

He did extensive blood work and found my T levels were very low. Since I'd never been tested for it before, we did not know if it was genetics or something life changed. I told him my brother was also dealing with GAD and tool Lexapro. His view is testosterone has a side benefit of a "confidence enhancer". He explained it affects our mental state not just in a sexual way but also our well being. I asked him about homeopathic methods of increasing T since that is his usual direction of medication. For me, he said the levels were too low. He put me on once a week T injections (.75mg) and 10mg Lexapro. Within a couple weeks, I was feeling much more calm. My older brother who also suffers from GAD only takes the Lexapro. He said, his sex drive went down with the Lexapro but was more at ease as well. My sex drive went way up. I can fuck just about anytime. I find myself sometimes masturbating even though I'd just had sex the night before!

Things to know: You need to be aware that there may be an increase in heart issues while on T replacement. So you must be monitored. The healthier you can keep your body, the better. And yes... Your testicles will shrink up a bit. Sometimes a lot. But my erections are fabulous! While I would prefer my balls to "swing", I gladly take the nice erections. Hope this helps those looking.

I’m a doctor and have hypogonadism and I have Nebido injections every 3 months. The issue with instant releases testosterone has been shown in many peer reviewed journals to cause side effects and long term damage. The best is either Nebido or the testogel which have been widely studied. Low testosterone obviously can lead to osteoporosis, low mood, decreased libido, reduced bone and muscle mass, weight gain, reduced erectile dysfunction, lack of energy and development of abdominal fat redistribution and gynaecomastia.

Being honest I don’t have much info or knowledge about over the counter stuff. We don’t use it in the NHS. The only ones used are Nebido (intramuscular injection given every 3 months or less if required) and Testagel which is put on to the shoulders and soaks in. Tablets are longer used as they had very nasty affects on the liver as the testosterone was rapidly processed by the liver. Nebido and skin applications bypass this system completely as the medication is not metabolised by the liver. But, please see your doctor. Any person should ask a doctor for advice, the main reason is anyone going onto any form of testosterone needs a prostrate PSA blood test and rectal exam; reason being testosterone will make a cancerous tumour of the prostrate grow rapidly.

Best advice to anyone, is always seek medical advice as your doctor will be honest and if you are concerned do blood tests to check testosterone levels. If they are normal, adding more is not helpful. Plus if your levels are low then you run the risk of osteoporosis, so just ask the question and go from there.

I've done biweekly T injections for years. While it does increase the incidence of morning erections and cause more sexual thoughts and desires when it's higher, right now, I'm way late in my shot because of insurance problems getting the med. I'm staring at my work screen instead of doing work: someone mentioned "confidence enhancer". Yah, when it's low, it's hard to feel capable of handling things, staying focused on a task, accomplishing things and figuring them out. If it goes much further, some light inexplicable depression will set in. So yah, T has to do with a lot more things than sex drive when it's wrong.
