The real story behind irish dancing is that you were forbidden to dance on a sunday if your were a catholic, it was not the done thing. So the children were taught to to dance bolt upright with their arms down by their side, just incase the priest passed by your window and saw them. He would naturally think it was just kids being kids often jump up and down.
