How many nuclear weapons have been detonated since 1945?

Interesting. Nuclear weapons were not invented and designed to kill humans though. They were originaly created for land clearing and underground cave developments. It wasn't until it was realised nuclear weapons were good at human clearing also, that they decided to use it for that purpose.

Through the 1950's they tested many in Nevada and the South Pacific. People use go to the Nevada test site and watch. The government trying to kill the citizens with exposure to radiation.

its probably a matter of record because they make quite a big bang and at least the other side was always keeping track. Then theres that business of salvaging metal from old ships for certain uses because all modern metal is now radioactive from the atmospheric contamination.

There is a documentary film that was released on this very subject about 10 years ago and it goes a great deal farther than most would believe because there was a great deal that was not disclosed for many years.

The actual figure is "guesstimated" at somewhere over 2,500 according to that documentary.

Some of the locations are actually quite surprising. Of particular interest for many would be "Operation Gas Buggy" which was used as a precursor to "fracking" and that one did not work either. It fractured the shale perfectly to extract the natural gas, but the gas was so toxic with radiation the end product was not usable.

Interesting. There is certainly some wonderful test footage of underground tests..
