Chicago varies greatly depending on neighborhood.

When I relocated here corporate housing was $3000/month downtown (including parking, maid, furnished, etc).

In Lakeview, it's very mixed from affordable studios at maybe $700/month to expensive stuff at $4000/month. I bought in order to avoid the whole renting situation.

From what I know, a vintage 1 bedroom of about 800-900 sq ft runs about $1000/month with no parking.

it has a big range.. if you can live in the ghetto for like 800 a month..
and the sky is the limit, after working in real estate for the last 6 years, I can tell you that I have seen one bed rooms around 3000 a month in some very exclusive areas.
that guy that says san fran is cheap is on acid. :p

We pay €550(around $770) a month. We have a 2 be 2 bathroom apartment with a good size terrace. We are seafront and have views to neighbouring islands. The complex we live on has 2 swimming pools and we have private underground parking.

My apartment in San Antonio is $580/month base, but I pay $590/month with the added $10 pet rent (I have a cat). I am having trouble paying even that. I'm glad I moved now. Until the end of July I was living in the building next door and had a 1 bedroom + den apartment, and it was $680/month, but I was paying month-to-month so it was $740/month with the added fee for pet rent plus month-to-month fee.

In NY, in the Bronx, in my neighborhood, most available apartments have at least two bedrooms, and rents are around $1500 for 2+ bedrooms. This does not include a parking spacewhich could be extra if the street is not good enough for your car.

In MA, in Malden, in my complex 1 bedroom is over $1300, and two bedrooms cost over $1700. We have a lot of ammenities, but the new landlord is disapointing.

God do I miss Davenport, Iowa. I had an 850 sq. feet two bedroom apartment with a dishwasher, utility room, central heat and central airconditioning, back patio with room for an herb garden, sliding glass door to the back patio, loads of space, and I could afford to have maid service every other Friday. I paid $530.00 per month. I felt rich!

Iowa is what made me start this thread. I spoke to someone last week who was investing in property there. He has a 4 unit home and rents them out for $400 a month.

That's ludicrous! You may as well live in Orange County, CA.

Yeah, but you'd be living in Orange County! LOL!
Vancouver is one of the most livable and beautiful cities in the world.

My penthouse flat in Antalya is 1900 sq ft. I pay 530 U.S. dollar per month rent and I will be buying it for about 130,000$.

It has sea and mountain views, 3 balconys and a huge terrace off the upstairs bedroom.

Probably the cheapest rent here is something like where my uncle lives, a one bedroom in a formerly military WWII era complex, $450., and $50. for a heated garage space. It is well kept up and safe. He could live in his cabin on his 80 acres near my place, but is getting up in age.
I don't know what the high end is. I have never lived in an apartment, before I bought I lived as a roommate in friends' houses, or in my RV.
My mortgage is paid off; utilities, taxes, and insurance are about $500. a month. When I have had roommates, the rate has been $400. a month. I would be glad to have a roommate or two, lately they have either been impossible to live with, or flaked out.

Wow... you can get apartments for radically different prices here. You can get a two bedroom/two bath apartment within a few miles of each other for anywhere from $600/month to $1200/month.

Don't even get me started. What we could get for our 1,200 sq ft. house and property here in Washington would buy us a house in either Royce Woods or Hallbrook Farms there.
