I just got my first one in Florida and I am a little in shock. $150 for one month for a one bedroom apartment, 525 Sq. Ft.

I have central AC and have it turned high to almost 80. I don't like it too cold in my apartment. I think I will have to turn it off and go out for a ride to save money.

Odd how things happen-just today my bill arrived from Con Edison. In answer to the question t was $48.00 and change. Then there was the annoying gas cost (I have a gas range) of another $17.53. The grand total combined was $65.90.

Is part of your bill starting costs, i.e. turn on fees which will be refunded either after a set amount of time or at the time when you leave the apartment?

Ask around and see if your neighbors are receiving similarly high bills, if not, then have your meter checked for any malfunction.

I'll have to ask around. I think it's just the electricity charge.

1210 KW hours $132.47, (customer charge $5.34, 74.95 fuel, $52.18 non-fuel...broken down into KW hours ) storm charge $1.34 , gross receipts tax $3.43, Franchise charge $8.25, utility tax $7.78 = $153.27

How may KW hours are on your bill?

(I turned my central AC off for now)

Here electricity is like 1.60 per kwh. My bill with a 10k btu ac unit running most the time is 110 dollars. That also includes a computer that runs nearly 24/7 and a mid size fridge. The service fee for the bill is like 8.55 no matter how much electricity you use.

Our bills arrive every two months in Spain. The water and electric arrived this week. The electrice was €80 and the water €27. That's working out at just over €50 a month for the two bills.

your bills are all low, here in hawaii the rate is $.44/KWH, my bill this month was $350 for only 800 KWH, no a/c no heat, solar hot-water, gas dryer, this is light bulbs and kitchen. its gouging big time...

what are you doing to use so much electricity, 800,000 watt hours is alot of electricity. Hawaii is suppose one of the most expensive places to live. Sorry about that. How do they generate electricity on the islands anyway.

Is 800 a lot? My bill said I used 1200 KWH in a small 1 bedroom apartment.

I pay £70 a month for gas and electricity. £42 of that is for electricity. I used to pay £22 but despite the fact that my last bill was in credit, my suppliers hiked up the electricity charges and told me they were doing it due to 'rising energy costs'.

Right.

Dominion Virginia Power charges me an annual average of 6.15¢ per kWh (7.15¢ Jun-Sep and 5.79¢ Oct-May.)

Last month that was $113.28 for 987 kWh (including $3.74 in fees and taxes.)

Not bad for a 2000 sq ft, 5-bedroom house. (Truthfully, though, since I live alone I only actually use three rooms.)

Wow, I am amazed at how low some of your bills are! I say this in comparison. I'll explain:

Where I live, the average cost per month for electricity only (and for a small house) is about 75 dollars. We produce energy for ourselves and we sell energy to the region and it's f**ing expensive!
It has to be taken into consideration that salaries are from 4 to 5 times lower than in the US or Canada, for example.

I can't believe it.

Seems about right to me. Of course I live in Texas where we have deregulated electricity....several companies to choose from. But we still have the highest rates in the country. The free market ain't so free.

San Francisco Bay peninsula just south of SF, which is rather mild climate. now living in a new 625 sq. ft. all-electric apartment. recent bills have been about $14 with very little use of electric stove. use microwave a lot. the building is quite well insulated and highest winter bill was about $19.

previous apartment was 850 sq. ft. and average summer bill was $30. winter was about $75.

I am SO happy I moved!

I turned my central AC off when and I got home the temp was 87.4 F.

I would love to get a small window economical unit, but I don't think they will allow it here.

I previously posted jokingly but here in PA I'm paying $0.15 per kwh. I don't get the actual bill since I live in apartment so my billing omes from the Property Mgmt. This rate seems to be in the ballpark for this area.

My recent bill was $79.50for 513 kwh.

Where I live in Florida it is not deregulated so there is no competition.
