I only sleep that long after being up way too long, like on trans-continental flights. Just how long are your work days? Do you stay up really late after work and then try to "catch up"? But yes, too much or little sleep can give me headaches. 7 to 9 hours is about right, usually.

8 is normal. 14 is not normal. The only time that 14 hours would make sense if you worked five 12 hour shifts in a row, or drove for 23 straight hours. Depression sometimes leads to too much sleep.

Actually...believe it or not, but people who sleep 6-7 hours live longer than people who sleep longer than 7 hours a night.

Well that sounds cool, i mean i got to bed between 11.30-12.00pm when i have work the next day and have to be up at 6.00-6.30am so i have short sleep 5 days a week, i would like to spend less of my time on days off being asleep though, perhaps i should go sleep earlier at 10.00-10.30pm from now on.

Get up and go somewhere on your days off. If I hang around the house on Sundays I'll have two naps and feel like I wasted the day.

I think anything over 10 hours is too much. I get headaches if I sleep more than 10 hours.

I heard somewhere that teenagers and young adults need more sleep than older folks.

I have slept for 13 hours and when I woke up I was still very tired so slept another 3 hours. The only thing I can think of to that makes sense for my reason is I don't sleep good at all so I think I was just having a good night and catching up. I don't know....

Interesting topic

For a lifetime we are generally told
Must have sleep..usually 8 hours per day?
Teens of course can happily sleep double that time
(no problems)
These days i find .. the LESS i can survive on .. the better
Possibly has something to do with
living a relatively Stress Free Life
No Worries
and most things are Sweet'
Happen to have absolutely wonderful dreams,,with the little snippets of sleep.
(Bonus')

(i wondered .. what happened to you Mitchy - haa) true'

I once slept 18 hours.

I have noticed I sometimes wake up with headaches/migraines from sleeping too much or too little.

That's an interesting fact, Gl3nn.

I suffer from migraines. A sure sign that your tour of sleep duty went on too long is a headache. That is your body's way of sending you a warning.

I feel better when I get between 6 - 7 hours of sleep. That does not always work out so.... on occasion I turn in early around 9 or 10 pm and up again at 7:30 am

If your body is tired you should get some sleep and or rest. Your body will let you know what is appropriate, sometimes a whole day of sleep may be appropriate. I know often times when I work on a project for 2 or 3 weeks at the end of my project my body needs a break and I sleep a whole day. Sleep when you feel tired, Eat when you feel hungry, drink when you feel thirsty and so on. Just do what your body tries to tell you to do

7-9 is recommended for adults.

It's been discovered that those who change the number of hours they sleep from seven to eight or more are more than twice as likely to die within 11-17 years as those who kept sleeping for seven-- from non-cardiovascular diseases. So, sleeping too much can be just as detrimental as sleeping too little.

This site has some interesting information on sleep. Check out this if you think you're not sleeping enough.
