Gays (and all queer people, I'd imagine) are only known for promiscuity because, IMO, we are more sex-positive and open to other systems than monogamy. The last post gave good advice, but in this regard, while there are some protections generally under law even when certain types of escort services are illegal, the best protections are proactive.

Talk with clients using a telephone (and its best to have a 'work-only' mobile), and get their information before meeting them. Many escorts, both male and female, perform background checks on their clients as well.
