according to everyone else who doesn't like me, disagrees with my point of view, doesn't understand my sense of humor, takes offense at my tendency toward directness, or who envies me my fancy sports car, large penis, intellect or anything else that I have and that they talk about far more than I ever do: I am extremely narcissistic.

I see myself as a realist who understands his own strengths and weaknesses (both of which there are many) but who tends toward modesty more than bravado.

I don't mind looking at myself in the mirror once in a while, and often make myself laugh with my own wit, but I don't think I'd ever be in love with my own reflection as Narcissus was. I'm not that conceited.

This is always a sticky subject. We live in a country (those from the US) that touts equality as one of our cornerstones. THe reality is that inately we are in no way equal. There is always going to be someone brighter, more attractive, wittier, sexier, wealthier, luckier (you get the picture) and that is just life. For those who many feel have more than their fair share of the good stuff, there will always be haters. I suppose because I come from a Judeo-Christian ethic, I feel to whom much is given much should be required, including compassion and a prudent use of ones powers (yes with each of those things comes a type of power) However, I do not rule the world. It is true we are not responsible for other people's self esteem and I dont ever want to be one to squelch someone elses. So if you have it going on ,Power to you!

On a scale from 1 to 10 (being this the extreme narcicism) I'm a 6 or a 7.

Not only physical narcicism, but intellectual too (this is the most dangerous of all)

Isn't this a question of semantics?

Narcisissm by any other name can be interpreted as these positive attributes-

pride
high self-esteem
confident
exuding health
glowing
self assured
body proud
self respecting
self love

So yeah on some levels I am narcissistic. I admit I like to look at myself naked in the mirror. Is that a bad thing? Is thinking that you are special bad? Is Ayn Rand channeling thru me?

Regarding what may be seen as narcissistic: In some places in the world, there is no electricity to plug in a computer in which to download pics from a digital cam in order to post self-pics on the internet. There isn't even enough money to pay an electric bill even if there was electricity. We have the luxury here to enjoy such trappings, it is up to us to use them wisely. To me this is a matter of fate, no matter where we landed on the planet, in whatever socioeconomic situation, there are always choices to make. For some wearing a fancy tribal headdress in ritualistic ceremony in a remote plane of Africa might seem narcissistic when others nearby are dying of AIDS. There are always others suffering in which our expressions of individuality will be weighed against.

How narcissistic do I think I am? Sharing pics of what I was born with, using the creative skills I was also born with might not go over well in some parts of the world, but in this on-line microcosm, others let me know that they enjoy them and this gives me a good feeling. It keeps me energized and healthy and affects other things that I do for others and not for myself, things than have nothing to do with my exhibitionism streak.
