Forgetting names after an introduction happens often. It helps to write those names down and use the name frequently to rememeber it.
To prevent forgetting tasks I put them on a "To Do" list, on pieces of paper usually. I could have a list at work, at home or in my car and systematically cross off the tasks as they are done. I seem to have a good memory for things that are written down which is useful if I should accidentally throw away one of my lists.
I also used to write things down on pieces of paper to remember them. I went through a period, a few years ago, where I was chronically depressed and incredibly forgetful. I suspect they were linked somehow. Anyway, I could not remember those usual little thoughts that pop into one's head during the day, which made me incredibly scared, and just gave me a horrible feeling as I would try to remember what I had just been thinking about. It felt as if I was literally and figuratively losing my mind. I would try to write down
everything that popped into my mind, just so I would not feel like that.
Oddly, during that period, I retained the incredible long-term memory which I've always been blessed with. It was quite weird being able to remember inane things from years past, but not being able to remember what I had just been thinking about. Luckily, I got over this entire episode of my life, but I still fear that it might ever return.
