How short should men's shorts be?

The other day I was in the gym wearing short shorts (navy running shorts, 2" split on the side). Was on the leg press where short shorts become even shorter. There was this one lady about 40 years old (I'm 20s) working at a different station next to the leg press about 10 feet away and I noticed she was looking up my shorts lol.

She didn't think I noticed because I was looking slightly in the other direction, but the room is full of mirrors so I was looking at her the whole time

I was wearing white briefs underneath, so I casually opened my legs a little bit wider to give her a better view lol

So the original question is "How short should men's shorts be?"
Obviously I can't compete with any of the pics posted here, but look at my profile pic (<<<<< to the left of my answer).....and that's how short I reckon most men's shorts should be.
