Hey, there’s a dude around my age at my gym who is definitely the most aesthetic guy I’ve seen and honestly has my goal physique. I’d love to get to know his name and learn about any gym advice or his Insta for fitness inspo.
He’s very confident about his body - he’s the only one who flexes shirtless at the mirror near water refiller. Today I smiled at him when was flexing and complimented him “looking good”, he smiled back but he had AirPods in.

What are some ways to break the ice?

Assuming you aren’t attempting to convert him, just introduce yourself and ask him for gym advice. I’ve met several new friends at the gym from them approaching me like that.

Looking back, a few of them said something like “looking good” to me. A guy I became really good friends with asked me to settle a bet between him and his friend about who was doing an exercise with better technique. Another asked me to show his wife my technique while he coached her. Another asked me for a spot. I’ve developed friendships myself by starting with “nice lift” or asking for a spot.

Mind you, every single one of these were completely non-sexual. Thus, if your intentions are non-sexual, just be genuine, and maybe don’t ask for socials right off the bat.

I see no point on doing that, unless you are practicing to a bodybuilding competition or poor judgment.
You did broke the ice if I compliment a woman like that while doing squats it's a direct hit so forget about picking him up.
He has your ideal perfect body, well start training your ass to get your own.
But not all you see is natural so you might want to a visit to a doctor to guide you on the chems needed without compromising your health.
If you put aside your desire it's easy to speak to people, if they want to some people just want to get over with the routine and continue with his day.

You complimented him already, no need to do it again. If he wants to talk to you he’d have already done it.

Almost every dude at the gym works hard for their physique. They know what it's like to have to figure it out and try different things. 90% of those guys are happy to share advice and encourage others.

Just don't be creepy or lustful and ask what his favorite lift is for _____that you're trying to build up.
