Our entire Justice system in the USA is broken. From policing to the to the courts to the prisons and even to the post prison life of convicts, at every level the system has serious flaws.

Do you agree that our justice system is broken? What do you think can be done to fix our broken justice system?

start with funding. Raise standards for police, require a degree, a 4 year degree. Pay them more.
increase the staffing of public defenders, double their pay and give them dedicated to them investigators with police powers to work their defendants cases.
convicted people must improve their education skills and be treated by a psychologist weekly while incarcerated, No one gets good time off,or released without positive psych evaluation. Even if it is past their original sentence.
improve foster care system more pay, support for kids, each kid gets a lawyer advocate for the entire time he is in the system - not a social worker. Social workers are needed but not as much as the lawyers.
Judges cannot be appointed to the bench without the American Bar Association approval - ever. Federalist Society membership permanently disqualifies anyone from ever being a judge - FOREVER. Raise taxes to pay for all of this.

Well, they just sent the California National Guard to protect L.A. City Hall. That's the 453-foot not very tall Superman building in downtown.

Meanwhile over in Santa Monica looters are having free reign over the upscale shops a block or two off of Ocean Blvd., while police have been told only to "try" to control crowds. Santa Monica Police Chief Cynthia Renaud, appointed by then Attorney General Kamala Harris, is a petite woman who looks like an owner of a woman's hair salon. She gave a few brief words to the press and quickly left.

Angry crowds have even descended on the new LAPD headquarters. When was the last time you saw police attempting to defend their own building? This new architectural marvel is called the Glass House, designed to represent law enforcement's attitude of openness, unlike the old mid-century Parker Center which was a military fortress. In front of the new police headquarters is a park to suggest a 21st century friendliness and outreach from police to the greater L.A. community. Right now all they want to do now is save 11-stories worth of fragile glass from bullets and heavy projectiles. Parker Center - Wikipedia

{sigh} This usually progressive white guy wishes anyone with an illusion of authority-- even Dan Aykroyd as Joe Friday in Dragnet-- would come to Southern California and restore order.

The institution has proven it no longer has the right to administer it’s own affairs. All police departments need to be stripped of their ability to self discipline and of setting their own policy. Those powers must be forcibly stripped from them and handed over to a third party.
