I just have a question... is there anyway you can prevent getting stds during oral(men) other than using a condom?

Guess not... there is always a risk, unless you and your partner are both tested. Always use your intuition and common sense, when it doesn't feel right, don't do it... luckily most STD's you can get from oral are treatable and never swallow...

Herpes is not treatable...

You are less likely to catch stuff through oral than intercourse, but is still very possible. You can catch herpes even with a condom. Look before you suck and know the person.

Don't let anyone with a cold sore give you head. Cold Sore = Herpes. The only distinction is the location. Simplex 1 or 2 that is. But both are herpes. Had a buddy get herpes that way. Say it was the best blow job he'd had until he found out she'd given him a "cold sore(s)" on the dick.
