One this if for sure and pretty obvious to all but the dim - that's most of the representatives who serve the USA.
America is a divided country.
The cracks were always there but now they are apparent.
The Obama years should have enlightened people, they didn't, the resentment underneath the surface at being lead by a man of colour just got closer to the surface.
Once Trump got into power then all the vicious groups were given the all clear to act out their own agendas. The White Supremacists, the KKK, the Bible belt etc all were given the nod that to be against Obama a\and all people of colour was the right thing to do, don't let them get uppity. :Likewise the backlash against gays and transgender people - oh the god fearing south loves all that hatred. About the only group Trump hasn't given the not to hate are the Jews - but that's a long given hatred anyway in parts of the country.
What the UDSA lacks now is a coherent government with the ability to uphold the law.
Currently the country is floundering trying to act of what POTUS says one day on py to find its reversed the next. His WALL stirs up hatred and fear, his recent statements about illegals being deported, and the about face, uncertainty, should the rabble rousers hate and persecute the dreamers at have they come under the wing of Trump. Likewise with his anti Islamic statements and travel bans which cause dismay hate and fear and anger in the country - and its the anger that's the deepest and worst part.
One thing has become apparent in the first year of the reign of Donald the First is that for many the Civil War i8s not yet over, the divisions that caused brother to rise against brother is still there, it hasn't gone away, no law is going to change the inbred feelings that are in the DNA will cause divisions in communities who just doing want to move ahead. America is now a country that only looks inwards and to the past. There are many who have never been to a foreign country, travelled overseas, who need to use google to find out about other cultures. If there was a good thing about WWII it was the number of troops who went overseas, who saw other countries and enjoyed experiencing other cultures, they came back invigorated only to find an America that had changed - but in the following years America blossomed as it was all hands on deck to make this brave new world possible.
Oh how quickly dreams fade and die!
The USA is a country with haves and have nots and consequently there are parts that information cannot reach - or it doesn't want the information to reach. The affluent don't want to reach out to the poor, the poor see Trump as a man who worked his way up with hard labour while the rich see him as a pumped up wheeler dealer real estate man, the President is responsible in so many ways for emphasising the differences within the many communities across the country causing each side to entrench even more.
As I said before what the country needs and doesn't have is good firm honest government, government that realises people are human beings not pawns in a power struggle. It needs people like Ryan to get of that smug horse and talk to the Democrats while the Democrats need to focus on not slamming Trump but looking for a leader to replace him.
But mainly the country needs a President who is admired, respected and trusted to do the right thing at the right time for the right reasons.
Alas in Trump the only right way is the Trump way - a man who is always right, always respects the other persons point of view as long as its his and is always truthful in his own eyes.
Its time America stood up, took a step back, breathed deep and had a good look at itself because unless it does the mire of internal machinations will drag the country to an all time low - its regard on the international stage is no longer all that good and many now regard Russia and China as being the two main world players.
