In another thread there was a brief discussion about campaign ads. We wondered whatever happened to ads telling why someone should vote FOR someone instead of AGAINST someone else.

In Florida the ads are probably the worst I've seen in years. The NRCC is running an ad that uses the already disproven story about the money given back to Iran. The truth is out but how many gullible voters will fall victim to this ad and believe the lie?

Rick Scott is someone who has it in him to do the impossible....he's so sleazy he'll make Ted Cruz appear human. His ads are among the worst of the worst.
'Mostly false:' Politifact vets 9 Rick Scott ads, finds all 9 are false

How low do you think they will go? Share your horror stories.

They engage in these kinds of lies, propaganda, and distortions because it has been PROVEN that it works on their bamboozled and gullible CONSTITUENCY.

I mean, if you're batshit crazy enough to buy into QAnon.... hey, what can I say?

That is not very politically correct terminology. Who determines ugliness? Who is the beholder?

It's ok...just vibrationzzz passing through.

The problem with political advertising these days is one party does not offer solutions, no answers, no outcomes.

What seems to be par for the course is rubbishing the other, belittling an opponent with no real answers on how to solve issues which have existed through all parties reign on power.

Issues that exist now have come to fruition have been predicted for at least 30 years, maybe a bit more.

Yet, no political party has taken the reigns and control. All Don has done is used the frustration, the building frustration to divide the US instead of Uniting the States.

Taken from a post I saw the other day....If fuel prices are a concern...then everyone park their car on the freeway and walk away. See how long it takes for the government to force change.

But I find an insidious movement these days to divide people, nations.

It is happening all over the world. I recognise it, don't know if others do too. Because after the last World War, we promised to all stick together to never let it happen again. That was the formation of the UN.

But hey.....people have become expendable. Plastic pollution of oceans is out of control. Yet NASA scientists are employed to find ways...nets to catch space junk....WTF??? It burns up....Yet our oceans are polluted with plastic on a molecular level we will all soon be consuming some plastic in our diet, a known carcinogen...yet scientists are paid billions to find a cure for cancer??? Huh....

Yes...money is in satellites and control. Not in how many humans survive. Life is expendable.

There is probably about 20 trillion dollars tied up in tax havens.

You would think at least a trillion would go to science to clean up our oceans.

Yeah...rant. Political retardation is a, or has to be some form of Rantiditness.

That is what this is all about. I want an a d telling me why I should vote FOR you not vote AGAINST the other person. Tell me how you are better. Are politicians even capable of telling me their benefits instead of an opponents detriments?

Well I don't know

if candidate D runs an ad that says candidate R will do X,Y&Z based on what he/she has said or if they are an incumbent what they have actually already done and I candidate D will not do any of those things then yes i guess in the most literal sense that is an ad telling me not to vote for candidate R and that will either convince me to vote for candidate D or not based on if I do not want things X.Y,&Z to happen or not.

Trump said he was going to appoint Supreme Court justices off of his Federalist Society approved list.

Clinton did not provide a list and I can only imagine the "outrage" from the right if she had provided a list drawn up by the ACLU or the Center for American Progress but I am sure most people knew her picks would be nothing like what were on his list.

Trouble was way to many Democrats either did not care about the Supreme Court the way the right has for 40 years now or did not look far enough down the road past just simply replacing Scalia with another right winger and never saw the possibility that Anthony Kennedy would in short order get conned into quitting and that if the R's hold the Senate that by this time next year Clarence Thomas's replacement will be on the bench.

We can only hope that now John Roberts finds his inner Earl Warren !!

Speaking of ads and just TV appearances in Florida

Based on how you ALWAYS see Rick Scott always wearing his ever present "Navy ball cap" without looking it up what kind of history/experience.service with/in the Navy would you think he might have?

I have always thought he is trying to emulate John McCain. The ball cap is simular

Hint: It is not as much as you would guess

I think I read Scott served about 29 months in the Navy as a radarman. That would not be an unusual hitch for men of his age. He did serve, he's entitled to wear the hat. He is a slime in his own right given his history stealing funds from the government in his private sector work. I also see how campaign ads are pointing out how he has screwed vets and the government despite being an ex-Navy man. None of that seems to bother his supporters.

Yes it was 29 months during Viet Nam, but even then a "standard enlistment" was 4 years right wrong or indifferent he most likley joined the Navy in 68 to avoid getting drafted and ending up out there in the bush dodging bullets with Forrest and Bubba.

Honestly though if you had not looked it up is that what you would have thought ?

Especially the way he wears it ALL THE FUCKING TIME?.

A junior enlisted for less than 2&1/2 years, 48 years ago ?

As a retired CPO who did 22 years who wears a ball cap from one of my old ships ON OCCASION it just strikes me as more or less a "poser" or someone who is trying to give the impression that his amount and level of service is way more than reality.

I mentioned the similarity with John McCain who on occasion but no where near as much/often wore a similar blue "Navy" ball cap and how I think he was/is trying to emulate that look.

Well John McCain Graduated Annapolis and was on AD for over 20 years.

Not exactly the same.

If Al Gore who was in the Army for actually longer and in Viet Nam during that some time frame CONSTANTLY wore an Army ball cap?

People would not be saying "what the hell is up with that" ??

As we have discussed at length in other threads it is because when I see something that looks or seems "odd" or "makes you say HMMM" I wonder why that person is doing that ?

I do NOT believe that "things just happen to happen" any certain way.

In this case just about anyone would come to the conclusion that he is doing the thing in question "on purpose" It is WAY beyond some weird flukey chance sort of thing.

I wonder why

What is it he thinks people are going to think/assume about him when they see this?

More than the actual reality ??

That would not surprise me.

Hummmm, I seemed to have stumbled upon another one of the MG threads.

It is the season of lie steal cheat or kill. Spend millions of dollars to get a job that pays less than $200,000 a year. Both parties are guilty. Neither one has solutions. If they are a freshman Sen or Cong can't do much more than vote on bills that come up. It's not like they'll be anything other than a stoolie for who ever is ranking on their side. They'll vote along party lines like they're told to do. Regardless of what they say in ad commercials. Ironically both D and R thinks everyone is gullible.

There are no more Mr. Smiths go to Washington. There appears not to be anyone running with a backbone to stand up and say enough is enough.

But it's not like anyone in this thread (up until now) is voting Republican anyway.

Detailing what your opponent has done and how you will be different is not what I'm talking about. Most ads are now telling how bad the opponent is and not one mention of how this candidate will be different. For example, an ad says that candidate X beats his wife and runs over puppies. Candidate Y does not beat his wife and run over puppies and will punish those who do. That ad is different from one in which Candidate Y just tells us all the bad stuff about Candidate X.

As to your comment about the SC I tell all those who though Clinton vs Trump wasn't a big deal to think about how they feel now that it seemed Garland vs Kavanaugh. They despised Kavanaugh but their refusal to vote or voting for Stein made him possible. Do they want someone like him replacing RBG?

Visuals matter because to many they vote based on that. Not on issues.
Heck, we're still discussing gambling in Florida (a topic we debated and studied back when I was in 5th grade).
