sorry this has been a little dormant but I remembered seeing it and I had an experience that seemed appropriate...
Recently I went out with some friends from High School to one of the club/lounges in town, and we were on the guest list because another friend from HS worked there.
Anyway, it's been a few years since HS, and over a year since I saw two of the guys who were there. The one in the group, we greeted with a handshake, which I expected and it was clear that's where it would stop. No argument and I'm pretty used to it - it seems to be pretty much the guy-greeting in my circles, that OR the hand-shake/half-hug. Sometimes, I get just the hand shake, since I'm openly gay (and have been since HS).
Moving along- the friend who was working at the club, who I haven't seen in well over a year, spotted me at the club and very enthusiastically called out my name, and I was prepared for the handshake/half hug but he skipped right over the handshake and went for a full-on hug, with nearly full upper body contact... but then proceeded to greet the other males with the handshake/hug.
When we were leaving, we parted with a similar hug.
Granted, I'm not questioning that he's still, at least predominantly, hetero - but it was definitely nice (in a nonsexual way) to be greeted so warmly by a male-peer, especially because of our differences in orientation.
I guess it was extra special since I don't have a whole lot of male-bonding experiences, so when something rare like that happens, i like to hang on to it.
Sorry to be so long-winded, but I wanted to share.
