Since there in fact was no Mohamed, can Islam be considered anything other ideology or superstition? i.e., not a "true" religion, what ever that is? In fact, the suggestion is that Islam was concocted to "keep up with the jews", so to speak.

I think there is a lot of eveidence that Mohamed, and for that matter Jesus, existed. What are your sources for suggesting otherwise?

What difference this makes to whether it is a religion or a superstition I have no idea.

You can easily hold that all religions are nothing more than superstions.

In any case I don't think you will find that Islam is dependant on Mohamed in order for it to be a religion or faith. He was a prophet not a god.
