Anyone on here ever gotten a hydrocele? A couple weeks ago I noticed that my left testicle was about four times larger than my right. No pain whatsoever. I went to my GP, who ordered a $1,300 ultrasound, and it confirmed his diagnosis of a hydrocele. I'm going to follow up with a urologist later in the summer because the GP and web research shows it's not that big a deal. I was just GLAD to find out it wasn't cancer because I had kidney cancer four years ago. Anyone else had one?

How interesting
when younger i may well have had, reading an article re it, now that you have given it a name
tbh i was too shit scared to tell my parents, or anyone in those days, i recall it lasted for a week or so, and next time i thought of it, i realized it had gone sometime when i had not realized,it just went away

Thanks for putting a name/diagnosis to it, i feel sure i had it, going to read up more on it now
Cheers to you matey

The docs thought I had a hydrocele when I was in school, so they went into do a minor surgery to 'empty' it, but when they were doing the surgery they found that it wasn't fluid it was omenal fat (the fat that protects your organs) that had slipped through a small hole in my abdominal wall...so what they thought was a hydrocele was actually a hernia....so now I have a couple of scars on my balls...

Taught me a new word, Bulgey. Never heard of omenal fat before. But did it make just one nut way larger than the other? Or the whole scrotum? I'm also hoping for the just-goes-away factor, even though the GP said it might not be worse but won't get better on its own. Ya never know. At the moment I can't get health insurance (the aforementioned kidney cancer) so the fewer procedures the better.

Haven't researched the ever important LPSG Healthy Penis Forum
but just wondering, how many people Dont bother checking out useful Male Health info, or contribute what they have experienced for the sake of other members, esp the younger ones
befuddles me
sort of like the ole well known male thing where
we are Gutless bastards when it comes to anything to do with our health, Penis or elsewhere ..

Thanks you two ..

I developed a hydrocele on my right ball about a month after vasectomy. it was the size of my fist. I went to the doc that did the vasectomy after work one day, and he drained it and gave me some antibiotics. 24 hours later, the fluid was back. It was quite uncomfortable at times at work, but I decided to wait til our slow season(construction) to have surgery. so I had surgery in January. the doc(s) basically made a incision down the side of my right nut. so I have a nice long scar. I call it my "zipper" ball. It was not painful due to the drugs I was given, but a couple days later, the healing process really kicks in and there was pain. I had to go to the doc 3 days after the surgery to have him remove the drain tube. I didn't know that ato remove the drain tube was basically just yanking it out of there. the doc said it was best to go fast and not slow. he said, "i'll pull it out the count of 3." he pulled it when he got to "2". it hurt and for 5 minutes I sat on the little bed with my legs uncontrollably shaking. They used stitches that dissolved and I had one that didn't right away, one night I was examining myself, and I found it, shot out of there like a big zit, painful and got my legs shaking again for a few minutes.

in the months before the surgery, I would go out for a few drinks with my wife & friends and play pool. I had one helluva bulge, and I'm hung w/big balls, sporting a nice bulge anyway, but I never knew females checked guy's bulge that much. I heard "what the hell are you packing in there?" more than once. my right nut was bigger than a baseball, hard to pack all of me in pair of Levi's.

Digging up this old hydrocele thread.

I've got a couple of hydroceles (mentioned in another old threat "Testicular Torsion") that are not noticeable just by looking unless laying down in certain positions or if doing a testicular exam. Even new docs don't believe me when I say I have them until they physically search for them.

But, docs have all repeatedly said they shouldn't be a cause for any pain and they only intervene if they become large enough to cause discomfort (in clothing or due to weight). I still think they are actually causing some degree of pain, though, especially in ball bouncing/slapping situations.

One of my concerns in having anything done about it is what bigbucky said above, and from what I also read elsewhere, that a draining procedure (via a needle) can result in it coming back. And I'm not sure I want a surgery to remove them because I don't want scars on my man parts.

Anyone have a hydrocele successfully dealt with by draining with no recurrence?

10 years ago, my son had a hydrocele. My wife and i noticed that his scrotum had ballooned a decent amount, but it wasn't inflamed and he wasn't in pain from it. I think in his case the ballooning happened to the right side.

To correct the situation, minor surgery was done at a nearby children's hospital. The doctors didn't touch the testicles or scrotum at all. Instead, they made a small, shallow incision in the groin area, basically in the crease between the abdomen and top of the thigh. They simply drained the fluid and opened the vessel that was constricted and which was causing the hydrocele.

But in his case, the only scar is a quarter-inch line in his groin. No scar anywhere near his scrotum or testicles. Surgery was no more than 30 minutes. He hasn't had any problems since.

Good luck. I hope it works out as easily. I will say, i've discouraged him from riding bikes since then, because i've been afraid that it might have been a cause, though the doctors said it was just a random situation.

they drained mine once, 24 hours later it was back. surgery was required. I have a "zipper" (scar) on my nut. that was 26 yrs ago. hopefully, they have found a less invasive way to remove.

I had a. hydrocele since high school. For years it was the size of a golf ball then in my mid 30's it began to grow. Don't know why. It grew to the size of a softball. The urologist told me that it would not cause any physical harm, but if it became uncomfortable walking, running, sitting, etc then I could have it drained. Had the outpatient surgery several years ago (10 years now). My balls still hang low because of the excess skin.

Was the draining all that was done successfully?

"The docs thought I had a hydrocele when I was in school, so they went into do a minor surgery to 'empty' it, but when they were doing the surgery they found that it wasn't fluid it was omenal fat"

Lord have mercy! One of the big rules in the medical field is to do the simple tests first, then, and only then, do the fancy stuff. Here's how you diagnose a hydrocele. It isn't that hard. First you look at the sack to see if its larger on one side than on the other. Then you feel the sack and try to feel for the testicles. Usually, on the hydrocele side, you can't, and the other side is pretty obvious, firm, round gland that jiggles when you try to move it. Then you turn off the lights in the room, and shine your flashlight on the back of the scrotum. (This is the fun part!) A hydrocele lights up like a red-orange jack o lantern on Halloween. The other side of the scrotum stays dark. You then turn on the lights, tell the guy to pull up his shorts, and you call the urologist. (And not to be a fussy prig, but it's "omenTal" fat. ) A fat pad herniating into the hydrocele is certainly possible based on the your anatomy, but that surgeon really should have had a heads up on that one. That guy isn't going anywhere near me!

How convenient it is, that I find this thread today:rolleyes: I just had mine drained and repaired this morning. Though I'm on pain medicine and antibiotics. It doesn't hurt as bad as I imagined that it would.
I can't pinpoint when I first discovered having one. But it's been several years.

And continued to grow. I felt it as I lift, squat etc. Not a lot of pain but feels like a weight or something, pulling at your nuts. Doc.,says it has nothing to do with ed. But I don't remember an ed problem before having this.
Doc. Didn't come back to me, after the procedure. Though I probably wouldn't remember it, if he did.

Go back in 4 weeks. Nurse did say that it was not an average, or simple hydrocel it had like walls to it. It was drained and the sac was removed. No drain from what they told me. I do have some pretty thick Gauze on it.

Been approved to be off work for two weeks. Hope it feels better by then. To me right now, besides where the incision is. It feels like I've been doing a lot of sit ups or something. Is the only way I can describe it.

I told the nurse that I want the left nut to match the right nut. And for it to feel normal again.

That's all I got right now, I'm sure it's going to feel worse, as the pain meds wear off.
