Hi Everyone,
Well, I've been posting for the past month, so I guess I really should introduce myself. I've been a member for the past 2 years I think, after discovering this site by reading Michael Musto's column in the Village Voice. I enjoyed reading the threads, but kept myself from responding cause I thought I would just get into some battles with people. Imagine that? Then I got into a relationship that took up a bit of time. Now, I'm single and enjoying that and while trying to avoid doing a project, I decided to start posting here--cause nothing is better for procrastination than distraction.
My professional career is one in which I help people find solutions to problems. So I guess that's the main reason I wanted to be a part of the forums, to share some thoughts and help others that are seeking help and support. I've had a range of experiences, have lived throughout the world and have a fair share of formal education and training, so I've got some tools to help.
I've also got some biases--I'm African-American (so I'm not a fan of people bashing the ethnicity of anyone), I'm bisexual (so I don't take kindly to people attacking sexual identity and expression), a feminist (so I respect women and strive for their equality socially, politically, economically and without violence) and a survivor of childhood molestation (so I'm particularly sensitive to threads that border on or are basically literary kiddie porn). If I'm reading a thread that touches a nerve, I'm most likely to comment, but I'll always keep an open mind and always strive to be respectful.
I hope to contribute in a positive way to this site. Nice meeting you all.
HH
