Seeing this a lot has me curious. Why a hyphenated last name. I also see a few guys doing it. Does it signify something? Trendy? Just wondering what's the deal.

For professional reason, I never changed my last name at work but hyphenated it on everything else. I am not really a big fan of hyphenation, but it as an established professional it made the most sense. If it wouldn't have created an issue for me at work (being known by my maiden name & working at the same place as hubby), I would have been just as content to take his name. As for the guys doing it, can't speak to that one, because I have no friends who have done it. I do know one guy who has a hyphenated last name, but it was given to him at birth, his mother's maiden name is his middle name.

I took my husband's name when I was first married. Had it legally changed back to my maiden name four years after the divorce. I did not take Cap's last name. I never once considered a hyphenated name.

I would never consider changing my last name. It's who I am - married or not. I would never ask a man to change or hyphenate his name for me. If procreation were to occur - we could rock-paper-scissors for it!

Agreed. I have my own last name and changing or hyphenating it has never been on the table. Never really considered children, so.

My last name is two words. Hyphens look gross to me. My fathers last name and my husband's last name look great together. Having both names gives me the legal right to use either or both as convenient. As a result, I had no hassles with bank accounts, titles, bonds, or licenses after I was married. The only thing I had to change was my social security card. Easy.
