I’m very curious to know, what different people find sexually titillating.

We talk about what we like during sex, and what we like in our sexual and romantic partners, and fantasies and fetishes… But let’s talk about porn…

What do you like in your porn (Ficticious Stories specifically)?

What do you like to read about? What MAKES a good story? Does it get you off? Is it just fodder until you switch on a video? Do you care if its even believable? I’m just curious in the general sense. Does spelling count? Is a plot even necessary? Any gripes, bitches, or complaints about things that bug you in written porn? Are there certain genres you prefer?

In short, what makes or breaks a good porn story?

    Good question finsuptx.

I love reading porn; have enjoyed it since I discovered the letters section of Penthouse Magazine in the early 70's.

The Penthouse letters section had a big influence on my erotic fiction preferences. I remember as a young horny high school student hiding in my room after school reading those monthly letters about sexual conquest and sexual fantasy on the glossy pages at the front of the magazine.

I remember devouring stories from readers across America, horny housewives, randy farmers, sexy office clerks, roaming airline pilots, cockold husbands, well endowed athletic college co-eds etc. etc. etc.

I guess that is where I developed my bias toward 'realistic' stories. I'm sure most of those Penthouse letters were not written by real 'readers' but written by staff at the magazine. Nevertheless, they were portrayed as real stories from fellow readers. Stories from male and female readers about their sexual conquests and sexual encounters.

Having said my bias is toward "realistic stories", sometimes a fantasy story can capture my imagination. A fairy tale about being granted three wishes or about drinking a mysterious potion to enhance sexual prowess or physical appearance can be well done. I've read some great examples of that type of erotic fiction here in LPSG.

I recall one erotic fiction novel I read many years ago about an 'alien' from another planet who was hugely endowed and used his physical prowess to seduce the horny earthlings and impregnate all the beautiful busty young women of planet earth. His sexual prowess was so powerful he even seduced the males of the species. I remember it was a very cheap paperback that I thumbed through so much it fell apart. I don't recall if it was very well written, but it did have a huge impact on my personal fantasies. To this day one of my fantasies is about having the supernatural powers of seduction and conquest.

This brings me to my second personal preference. I like stories about sexual prowess and sexual appetite. I do not like bondage, rape or any violence. I love the idea that one sexual partner finds the other partner irresistable. I love it when the physical attributes and abilities create such desire and sexual tension that one character is irresistably drawn to give himself or herself over to the other character either because they are particularly well endowed or physically attractive or uniquely skilled in their sexual abilities.

Good description with building sexual tension is important in fiction writing. Getting to the 'money shot' too soon is a crime as far as I'm concerned. However, building the story and making it interesting to the reader is a skill that should be used judiciously. some description and story line is a must... too much is a bust.

Throwing in a bit of humour is always fun. A good description of the scene to set the mood and detailed description of the physical attributes of the characters definitely adds to the reading pleasure. On the other hand, pages and pages of extraneous description and scene setting can be a real turn-off. It's not poetry its pornography.

Finally, good sentence structure, grammer and spelling are not something I want to harp about, but it can be frustrating if the writer makes too many mistakes. It interrupts the flow for the reader.

I didn't realize how important paragraph breaks were until I read some of the dense text I've seen in the fictitious stories section of LPSG. Even if the story is good and the descriptions are sexy and the grammar and spelling are correct, if the whole screen is filled with dense text it can be a tough read.

But maybe that's just my grumpy middle age side coming out.

I admire and appreciate those who take the time to practise the craft of writing a good story. I really like the LPSG erotic fiction forum where readers can provide instant feedback.

Let's make sure we keep it a positive and supportive forum. After all the "S" in LPSG does stand for Support ...

    Cheers

    JJ

Here was a "Story Contest" post I made a while back where I promised $50 to he/she that could write any story that really got me off (in which I outlined my preferences very clearly):

    http://www.lpsg.org/131592-story-contest-winner-gets-50-a.html

I was fully prepared to award a winner too, but since I've been a member, while I have seen a few decent ideas here and there, no one here has ever actually submitted a story that I found to be entirely stroke-worthy. It seems to me that most writers don't like to take things as far into the fantasy realm as I do, and even when they do, their execution is often severely lacking.

Most of the time, a story posted here doesn't work for me because it features one or several of the following turn-offs (in order of prevalence): homosexuality (minor f/f bisexuality excluded), transsexuals, too much emphasis on orgies/group sex, violence/aggression/rape against women, BDSM, bizarre fringe fetishes (giantesses, furries), medieval/mystical settings (though My Minotaur isn't bad), uncircumsised men, anal sex, jumpy setting changes, and finally attempts at true (or half-true) stories. In the rare case that one of the above doesn't almost immediately ruin a story for me, often another major problem is that there isn't enough focus on what I consider to be three key aspects of a great erotic story: anticipation building, character development, and crafting long, imaginative, and highly detailed/descriptive sex scenes. I also like to see dialog that feels at least semi-realistic (many authors inexplicably have female characters in their stories spouting the most raunchy and unbelievable lines to male characters less than a minute after they've even met), and while bad grammar is slightly annoying, if everything else above is attended to, then it's really not a big deal.

Here's the links to my earlier posts of one of my favorite stories of all time (through Ch. IV because I never saved V damn it! Btw, I know, I should have just put it all under one post, but I was new to the forum when I added it):

    http://www.lpsg.org/138160-loves-world-ch-i.html
    http://www.lpsg.org/139853-loves-world-ch-ii.html
    http://www.lpsg.org/141437-loves-world-ch-iii.html
    http://www.lpsg.org/131654-loves-world-great-example-work.html (Ch. IV)

There you have it, and please let everyone note that I'm posting this again in the hope that if I just keep throwing these ideas out there, someone will once again write a story that I can use to fuel a new fantasy for once (even with my frequent searches through literotica, overflowingbra, mcstories, and a couple of size-related blogs, it's been so long since I've found something lasting that all of my old standbys are becoming less and less effective in those times when I have no access to porn but still want to flog the dolphin on imagination alone).

many of the stories on this site are well written. appreciate those who take the time to post their stories. I like to read details about the characters. Are the males cut or uncut, hairy or smooth, details on their bodies. Same for the women. detailed descriptions add to the stories. hope this helps you.

Some other comments about Love's World:

I have an idea about the flaws people find in this story. They probably are:

    1. Completely "unrealistic" setting and sizes,
    2. Too much anticipation, not enough actual sex
    3. The guy got a little carried away with his Thesaurus and uses some silly words
    4. Triple testicles on the main character
    5. Terrible dialogue, mostly from the women

#5 I agree is, for the most part, a weakness of the story and could have been done much better, I just love the good aspects of the story so much that this doesn't bother me much.

#4 is certainly weird, but I think this was a (slightly misguided) attempt to account for the prodigious production of semen. Not the worst idea, but I'd say a larger "standard" pair is always preferable to some weird mutation like this. I got used to it anyway.

#3 is a little distracting at times, but it actually forced me to learn few words during repeat readings (a very rare lasting positive benefit from the ingestion of smut) and I find it honorable that he at least tried (albeit with only partial success) to bring some level of "sophistication" and intelligence to an arena that rarely possesses either

#2 is a weakness for some, but for me it's his greatest success. I'll extrapolate further down...

#1 may be unrealistic in terms of everyday human reality, but a crucial point here is that it's actually NOT IMPOSSIBLE in theory, not to mention extremely creative (though you'd have to have read Chapter V to understand the situation better... hell, I'll just tell you, in it he reveals that the aliens didn't actually abduct Johnny, Danielle, and Darlene, they just took a sample of their DNA and created clones that were genetically modified to be almost purely sexual beings with enhanced sexual organs). We have no idea whether a race of aliens exist which have the technology to do this, and while it is highly unlikely, in the vast infinity of the universe (or perhaps an alternate reality) such a thing could conceivably be possible. At the very least, everything in this story, as arbitrary as it may seem, is the result of a cause/effect relationship, and that is good enough for me. What I hate (in terms of lack of realism) is when authors create male human characters who just so happen to naturally develop functioning 2 foot long cocks the size of small tree trunks, and then ask me to believe that they can have sex with multiple AVERAGE human women without a problem. I can believe anything you come up with, but what is important is that you offer up some kind of imaginative TRAIN of logic from point A to point B, otherwise the whole fantasy comes across as silly.

Getting back to #2 to wrap up, the best thing about this story is the constant atmosphere of sex and continually rising anticipation that pervades every last paragraph. Some authors play an annoying bait-and-switch game of using an erotic context in an attempt to trick readers primarily interested in getting off into instead digesting what would otherwise be a run-of-the-mill sci-fi/fantasy tale, or a certain political/philosophical perspective, and while I definitely encourage the idea of non-erotic creative writing in general, I wish these kinds of stories could instead be posted in a more appropriate forum. When they are misleadingly posted to erotic story archives, to me it is, in a way, akin to "porn for women" (which, it would seem, is actually meant to be viewed by couples as foreplay, since most ladies probably find the majority of their men's porn collections totally tasteless), and this genre totally ignores what men really want to see (straight no-nonsense smut) and instead focuses on story, costumes, artistic lighting/camera angles, and a general aura of "classiness."

What's great about this story is that while it does include some important elements of plot development, every element that is introduced only serves to heighten the feelings of sexual tension felt by all of the characters. Meanwhile, all kinds of things are going on that give you that wonderful feeling of playful electricity and foreplay while denying you the final plunge into full-bore copulation until the last moment (Ch. 5, I'm really sorry I didn't save it). All the deep kissing and fondling, and joyful/playful/sexual exuberance, all the intimacy, and displays of awesome virility, and sensory rubbing of bodies against bodies and sexual organs against sexual organs, the shameless stroking, licking, sucking and massaging of breasts and cock, the shudders and moans, and the sexual juices flowing down legs and abdomens and faces and chests, and most importantly the longing wanton stares and smiles and giggles all coalesce so powerfully into an intensely erotic scenario that in my mind represents the pinnacle of experience that could be imagined by any true hedonist. And yet people just aren't that into this story. Go figure.

Things I like in porn stories:
    Power shifts.
Realistic sizes, especially if the story seems to be realistic in other ways. That is not to say I don't like reading about big cocks. But if the story starts off with some guy with a ten and a half inch dick who finds himself undone by a girlish twink with a fifteen inch lock dick that is 9 inches around it kind of breaks the spell.

    Sexual discovery.
    Romance.
    Character details.
    Coming of age.

And, on a humorous note, I love how when posting a story here, every high school student has conveniently just turned 18.

I was about to link to the story I just finished, "That's How It Happened," because it is a perfect encapsulation of everything I was trying to describe. Then I realized you wrote it.

I like resistance. Resistance = dramatic tension = erotic excitement.

It's more exciting reading about a happily married woman who is forced to fuck her father-in-law than reading about her making love to her husband. The first situation has a lot of tension, and her unwilling arousal is exciting. Consensual marital sex is dull by comparison.

It's more exciting to read about a straight guy sucking cock (I loved How It Happened) than a gay guy. Seeing the straight guy becoming aroused against his will is far more interesting than seeing the gay guy whose arousal is a given.
