Today was Oprah's Favorite Things show and it was filmed in Macon, Georgia on Sunday, November 11, 2007. I do not live in Macon, GA, thats approximately 125 miles from me; but if I had known she was gonna be there I would have driven!

Yes, I know it is petty and materialistic to be jealous of the 800 people that were in the audience; but I'm shallow and petty.:redface: I'm not super duper upset, after all I do have my health . . .sorta:tongue:

Oprah's recent ignorant, shallow, self-promoting invasion of youtube was basically my first encounter with her - hopefully it'll be my last.
(If people think you're brilliant, they'll tell you; not the other way around.)

Boy, my cynical side can't wait to hit US soil again. :biggrin1:

Do you really think Oprah gives this stuff away? Its a ''you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours''. Oprah gives free advertisement to these products and they in turn give Oprah the products. It's just like the famous car giveaway, how much free advertisement and goodwill was created by that, for GM.

And of course least we forget there is a gift tax that has to be paid, listen uncle Sam for sure wants his ''free gifts''.

Oh I can do you one better. Mont Blanc has a diamond encrusted pen valued at over $200,000. Can you tell I've been watching the CBS Morning Show's series on Richistan?

Maybe I should come up with the Shabby Chic list. After all I am O-siris.

Keepo a watch out for the LPSG O's Favorites list. :biggrin1:

Personally, I respect rich people more if they give to charities in a more low-key manner. What Oprah's doing is just getting more attention to herself. Warren Buffet and Bill Gates' donations seem more virtuous at times.

You can get up to $10,000 is gifts from a person and not have to pay taxes on it. This list of gifts comes up to less than $8,000, it seems to me to be tax free.

Oprah gives a LOT of away. Unfortunately giving shows don't attract NEARLY the attention as gettin shows. Cause everybody's living in a material world.

True, she does give alot of stuff away and she has done alot of good things in this world. I just don't like how she does shows where she just gives something really great to everyone in the audience. It's like giving out money so people will like you.

Well let's face it she is in a business were ratings matter a big deal. And as it was mentioned before I doubt if a dime came out of her pocket. The publicity alone is enough. Most of those gifts cost pennies compared to the national exposure the manufactuers get for the free publicity. Her book club is pure gold for the authors.

She does it once a year, every year, just before Christmas. What's wrong with that? She's giving away cool shit to her viewers. I'd do the same thing if I were worth billions of dollars and had my own TV show. At least she isn't just hogging it all.

    1. Giving away free things, and utilising the consequential publicity.
    2. Harvesting publicity, feigned as giving away free things from the 'goodness of her heart.'

Which do you think Oprah is doing?

(Whatever the true motive, both are likely to be diagnosed as poor methods by the intelligent, anyway.)

I think Oprah has a good heart. Who cares if she's doing it for publicity? In my opinion, she doesn't exactly NEED anymore publicity anyway. Just about every single person in the WORLD knows who Oprah is.

Call me naive, but I was under the impression that the money came out of her pocket. When a person makes that much money don't they kinda have to give away a lot so they don't get nailed by federal taxes.

    True and most unfortunate.
Call me Pollyanna; but I'm sure she had someone do background checks. She didn't just hire people that said, 'I can teach.' The fact a few teachers and I think the headmaster ended up being tyrranical-psychobitches isn't her fault. They have been terminated.

Look at all the allegedly qualified professionals we have teaching in the US who emotionally and physically damage children over decades before we notice. Or the Mary Kate Le Tourneau's who seduce young men. I'm not saying her school isnt having serious problems. I truly believe her heart was in the right place when she started that school and the Children's Miracle Network.

This is all I'm saying! :biggrin1:
