Yes. That's one of the reasons why I had decided that he was a complete dickhead. There are other reasons too.

Bear in mind that he's from the gypsy community and they have a different culture and belief system, where misogyny features quite heavily. Women get married very young, and generally do stay at home cleaning and cooking. Divorce is extremely rare, and often results in women being ostracised from their community - even where there is domestic violence.

He has been open about his drug and alcohol addiction, and his mental health problems, and has admitted that he needed help, and had a lot of help from a lot of people to get back up again. Men struggle to ask for help or accept help, and I believe that is why male suicide rates are so high, so it really is a big deal that he's said these things, and it will have helped a lot of people. He has specifically said that he was a "vulnerable person".

I didn't have my fingers crossed.

That over-macho attitude is part of what turns me off about professional fighting. It's a bunch of insecure baby-men pretending to be tough. It's ridiculous in my personal opinion.

Bringing up mental health issues is a big deal. Maybe he should have just shut the fuck up about the macho shit. Kinda shot himself in the foot.

Women box.

Is it only the men you are attributing this over-macho attitude to? Are you perhaps generalizing or making assumptions?

Combat sports are competativeness in it's truest, most honest form. All other sports are merely an abstraction of that. The majority of other sports seem far more absurd or ridiculous to me.

I don't think he shot himself in the foot. I think he had a humbling experience, and learnt something about gender equality. Exactly how much he's learned is anyone's guess, because I assume he's still a full-on Catholic unfortunately.

Yes, I know. I am guilty of over generalizing. I still don't care for fighting. I've done/seen too much of it that isn't sport to enjoy it as friendly competition.

Like I said, I'm not into sports at all. Including fighting. In several threads. People take it all way to seriously. Just my opinion.

You know I didn't broach this subject to find out who likes boxing, or to chat about boxing. You know me better than that ;).
The intention was more to do with toxic masculinity, and changing hearts and minds. It's all very well us turning up here to push the agenda of equality, but how often do you feel as if you've changed anyone else's outlook?, even partially?

I answered that in a thread in ask a woman.

I have no idea if what I say makes a difference. I have no idea if this boxer will either.

It's worth the effort though.

In the original post is wasn't clear at all that you weren't trying to discuss boxing. That's actually how the thread came off. I didn't know who the fighters were, so with no context I really did think you just wanted to talk about the fight. Nothing about "toxic masculinity" came up when I googled your thread title. Maybe that's why I was kinda confused.

I hear, and have heard many opinions in my life. These days, with the internetty thingamajiggy....so many more opinions come into the void...where once we used to have this void to oppose our own opinions....to guide our own intuition.

Now...we seem a useless bunch of fucks because we are to busy listening to others and not ourselves..........

Shit....I just realised I need to take my own advice instead of posting it :) :)

From my understanding of the original post you need to wear boxing gloves to make a cuppa?

Or make such a good cuppa it knocks you out.....Orrrrrrrr, if there was a cuppa to avenge all cuppas, asking a Boxer is the only way to get a great cup of Earl Grey..............

Fighting is not the essence of contest nor aggression.
Litigation is.

There is nothing stupider on this earth than people punching each other for money.
It worse than folks punching each other in bars, because the drunks have the excuse of being drunk.

You know, I went to a prizefight once. A hockey game broke out.

I’ll be here all week.
