Often times it's the only way some people can let out their artistic frustrations. Then again, I suspect you already knew that, now didn't you, you old coot? (would you prefer we all infested our posts with those smilies?)
If communication is the goal - admittedly, a big
if - then I was simply pointing out that the experiment with novelty fonts was an obvious failure. Since movable type was perfected some five centuries ago, the printed word has been standardized; a plain font, with or without serifs, in black on a white background. Why is that? Certainly oddball fonts - say, the various fraktur fonts in which German was once printed - and colors not found in nature were always possible. But they were rarely used, because they failed to enhance legibility. And even the Germans have given up on fraktur.
Once we realize that the standard typefaces and color combinations were not accidental, then it's only sensible to continue their use. Most posters do pretty well with the default font size and standard black text. The fact that other sizes and colors are available is hardly an excuse for licentiousness.
