ok so like...i've been tryna cut down on masturbation this year but it hasn't been working out. I'm still fapping at least once a day. any tips on how to slow down?

why would you want to stop masturbating?? no way! i will never give that up! lol
once a day is more than ok, if you do it 4 times/day then you need to read a novel or get busy on something else.. .. just my opinion

Like many above have asked: why do you want to cut down? I see masturbation as a very healthy thing and unless it's interfering with your life then I do not see why you should cut down on it. If you're still able to take care of your responsibilities and maintain a normal relationship with people around you then I say you've done a pretty good job at integrating masturbation into your life.
If you really really want to cut down from even once a day, which I think is very normal, then you're going to have to either distract yourself with other activities or tire yourself out. In the latter case the gym can work wonders.

Getting soft during sex is unlikely to be due to one fap a day. I would focus more on how you wank especially the extent to which you rely on porn and how hard you grip. If you rely on the overstimulation of porn and a very tight grip the sensarions of sex can be not enough. Good news is this can be solved without not fapping. Aim to cut down the porn, use nore fantasy on your head thab on a screen, loosen the grip, and go slow.
