This is a very fair point......but...I was in a UK all-male boarding school, 50 boys per dorm. We have a few people here who can utilize their extreme downward curves by measuring with a tape measure and show a ~9" range. The accentuated curve is what even allows them to be able to show that type of measurement.
That's not quite the same as erecting '9 ruler straight inches' outward from the body, but nevertheless it is legitimate according to the "measuring standards".
