Remote, my "Keeper of the Realm & Defender of the faith." friend..never taken as an insult. I can be very passionate & direct ( just look at some of my other writings, lol). The inent was to outline the differing yet same ways of our respective intertwined governments in acheving their goals.

So true with both of your statements. People stateside will drown it out with a beer or/and a reality show. My God, so many are just as stupid & ignorant as people were in the middle ages, it's just that now we have detailed knowledge of how to run a play station2 or X box.

I think that is why I like Star Trek so much, a fictional yet positive take on how Human kind gets over it's self & is banded together ( I guess to much fiction) to protect against alien races who conduct themselfs as we do to each other now.

Well, it's not quite the Middle Ages; thanks to Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, there's less stigma on being a whore now. It's Brave New World.

I sure felt better about Madonna in that role, she was of legal age! It was nice in the 80's to finally get to stop worrying about if your bra strap was showing.

I feel very much that our future is out of control. When I think about it too much, I get overwhelmed. Nothing can stop people with the will to do ill, especially when the vast majority has the will to ignore it. I have my own sublte ways of protesting, which I do with great zeal, but in the end, all I accomplish is making myself feel a tiny bit better about a loathsome situation. My vote counted for nothing, I doubt my voice does much more. Jane's Addtiction said it best- "Idiots Rule", and never has that been truer than here and now.

Actually, faceking, the bipartisan Congressional Budget Office says you can blame much of the deficit on Bush's tax cuts.

So tru jonb....so true.

Yes, this is where extremely simple logic comes into play. If you decrease income and increase expenditures, it is only a matter of time until you run out of money. This is not rocket science, any business run this way would fail (like all of the shrub's former enterprises).

Being an asshole is higher on the heirarchy of sin because it's a lifestyle, not an event.

Thanks for restating the obvious that I refered to in my post. Of course, it you reduce your income as in for the government taxes and then go and increase your expenditures it is going to put you in bankruptcy as in deficit spending. I was being nice and called that 8th grade math. You told the truth and called it third grade math.

In an earlier post you explained how the Bush economy had affected Ohio. It appears that Ohio was stolen. I can't figure out how they did it, but they did. The high Bush turn out in certain counties for example. And in counties where likely Democratic voters were for all purposes turned away. ( Long lines may have had something to do with it.) Election stolen not once, but twice.

About your last line. Jana, it could be a famous quote if it had been uttered by a famous person. As it is only LPSG people will ever get to appreciate it.

And red neck. I startted to use that term several times, but I didn't know if anyone outside the South would understand. Apparently redneck is universal. Everybody has them. Too bad.

Jana, you and I certainly do think a lot alike on many issues.

Well, we're not the only ones who get to see that line, I got the idea here:

Since I don't know what I'm doing, I hope the link works. Sorry to people who've seen it before, but it never ceases to be funny to me. Check out the schedule of fees page.

Cool! Right now the Pat Robertsons of the world are the ones selling indulgences, in deed if not in name. (Remember my comment about sodomy and simony?)

What is happening now has probably been going on for decades. HOWEVER, it has just never been carried out with such zeal, on such a grand scale, in broad daylight, at such an accelerated pace with no recriminations and in utter defiance of any conscience or moral standards whatsoever.

jonb, if the spelling is fucked, I'm on pain pills! woohoo.

Don't need a fortune teller to predict what this president will do. He likes war. He likes power. War will continue as long as he is president somewhere in this world. North Korea is a distinct possiility. Weapons of mass destruction there. Yea, war. No oil though. This may prove the prophetess wrong. No oil and no profit for Hali/urton? the letter after a doesn't work tonight? And Dick Cheney has to approve any war. Cheney is the real power. Ole George just likes to go around with gun in holster or out of holster pointed at whomever has oil.

Look out Canada :excl: George is looking your way. Those oil wells of mass profits :excl: Sounds like a good country to invade

I've seen almost every airing of the 700 Club and I've never herd of Pat Robertson speaking in such a manner. The guy is extremely against the buying of one's way into heaven.

I've never herd him say anything like you mensioned. Although if you can proove it, I'll beleive you, over I'll bet it's just your sarcasm or exageration of one of his theories that you don't like, but either way. And I wouldn't be surprized, We shouldn't trust anyone. But like I said, Pat would never say that, I've never herd him say that.

I don't watch much of the 700 Club. I know what I read though and I catch bits and pieces of TV right wing church. And I talk to religous right people here where i live.

The viewpoint of many of them is that any homosexual activity will sent you to hell and they believe in a literal burning hell where residents get to live for ever in a fiery burning furnace.

The indulgence that has to be paid is to give up all homosexual activity and thought. That is the ticket to heaven along with whatever the particular preacher is telling is the plan of salvation which varies from preacher to preacher.

I know the Bible well. And I know that there are as many interpretations of any passage of Scripture as there are of people that are reading it at that moment. I believe in the priesthood of the believer. That is a concept where each person reads the Bible and has a straight link to heaven and does not have to go through any other human being.

Only God knows the true interpretation and any debate that you or I might win won't change what God has already ordained. It may affect what we convince ourselves or others, but God's mind is already made up.

And in the words of Jesus. "Forgive them for they know not what they do." For God so loved the world that He gave his own begotten son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life." Sounds like Jesus plans on doing a lot of forgiving. Sounds like those that believe in Jesus are going to spend an eternity in heaven with Him.

I don't really know for sure. I am just quoting Jesus. But I have decided to believe that He knows what He is talking about.

Um, Volt? Robertson's the one who said the Apocalypse would begin if he didn't raise enough money. My point remains.

I don't know what to say man. I've never herd him speak like that before. If he said it recently he probly means that if we don't do something about the Tsunami Disaster releife TONS more people are going to die... and that would be considered the Apocalypse.

Freddie53, if you know the bible well, then I'm sure you've read it's many verses. Misinterpretation is the most common form of "I know what it says but I don't like it" syndrom.

I've read the King James version and am working on the New International version. I don't know about you, but unless a person has serious mental issues, illeteracy, or a form of mental retardation there is NO way one could interpret the bible in as many ways as you're assuming. I agree that much of it is symbolic and the entire reason the bible was written by many people from all walks of life is because Gods law is very open-ended to the many different people, yet united, the bible provides a LOT of different perspectives and viewpoints.

But there are MANY if not MOST chapters where there's no other way to interpret it other than what it says exactly. When he says "Thou shall not kill", it means Thou shall not kill, no other way to interpret I'm afraid.

So.......where does that leave us now that we have launched a religious war (a "crusade" and I'll let you figure out who said that) which has killed many thousands of people? Any literal justification for our actions in the Bible?

Regrettably, some Christians apparently don't interpret it so clearly as you do.

More than once in the last few years I've heard born again Christians claiming that "Thou shalt not kill" really means "Thou shalt not murder", a much more ambiguous instruction. This worries me because to redefine a clear commandment in such a way implies that killing by Christians is acceptable if it does not fall under the definition of murder. And who will define what constitutes murder or otherwise?

The Bible was not written in English. All English versions are translations by man. Most religious scholars say that the Hebrew word there means murder not kill. I don't thnk that gives us the right to go an get in a religious war and I am with you on that aspect. But the Bible does not condemn war. God on numerous occassoons leads the Hebrew people in a battle in the Old Testament. So we can't use the Bible as a document to condenmn all wars.

If all of us could read Hebrew and understand what it meant then, it would really help. But we can't. We know how hard it is to sometimes understand a person from another country and both people have English as their native tongue. So how can we expect people of today to understand all the literary terms and meanings for thoe words then as apposed to now. We can't. We just do the best we can and we will disagree on what the Bible says. We have been disagreeing now for centuries. It started with the disciples of Jesus and has cotinued to this day and will continue as long as time still exists and people are here on earth.

I have sterssed many times here the concept of "priesthood of the believer". Everyone can read the Bible and talk to God and come up with their own conclusions as to what the Bible says. NO other human being has a special connection to God that others don't have. That is the cornerstone of my beliefs and it is the cornerstone of most Prostestant churches.

So I don't have magical connections to say you are wonrg. I have the same right to read it and come up with my understanding as faulty as it may be. No one will get it perfectly right. We are human and subject to mistakes. None of us qualifies as a person that has perfect understanding of the Bible and God.

The difference between "kill" and "murder" is an important one, though; murder requires malicious intent. If I see someone about to shoot, so I shoot him, I killed him, but didn't murder him. If my soccer team's stuck in the Andes, I killed the guy with the short straw, but didn't murder him.

Of course, this also works in favor of pro-lifers, since abortion generally isn't because of malice on the part of the mother; she barely knows the kid.
