I'm tempted to go back for a short visit to see what's changed - once Fidel has hung up his hat of course. Havana Vieja late on the weekends...

I so badly want to do this. But I'm tapped out right now.
The astonishing thing is how much the Cuban people love Fidel, even after five decades of hell (largely thanks to the American government).
I don't deny that some Cubans hate him ... and I'm talking Cubans still on the island.

I think you're being overly kind.

Back in Chicago we had a name for someone like her. I think that name was "Bimbo."

Come on Simcha, your point was made and understood long ago. Expressly coming to a tread to solely insult another poster is borderline trolling, and you know it, regardless of who it is.

No, that's not a defence, it's just the tactic is getting a bit, old.

It's pretty simple, really. If we try to force our government on them, it's "democracy for the good of the world and in the name of jesus."

If they try to force their government on us, they're evil terr-rists.

If we invade their country, we're freedom fighters.

If they try to invade our country, they're evil commie terr-rists.

This is why most people hate America

George W. Bush, are you listening?

I disagree.

I think that some of you are overly kind because you're blinded by silicone.

The subject isn't so bad. It's the way she presents it that makes me cringe.

It's something of a paradox.

Many told me they hated what he did, but not him. Others, as you say were less charitable, mostly (but not exclusively) those under about 30.

You should make the effort, I imagine it's changed a lot since I went. The sex tourism thing was in it's infancy then so it was possible to go out, have a drink etc without being hassled. There was a noticeable change in that regard between my first and last visits. I dread to think what it's like today.

But if you avoid the tourist traps I bet the old place is still there, at least I hope so. If you go, try to get out west toward Vinales. It's tobacco country, and simply wonderful.

Keep to the subject of the thread, ok.

A question was asked, it, and not the person asking it are the subject of the thread. Some have actually found the question worth discussing. If you don't, piss off.

Ah yes...almost fifty years of enmity between Cuba and the US is caused by its dearth of properly fitting footwear.

Where is SpoiledPrincess when we need her?

No, I mean they can't get what they need because of political bullshit.
I think it is unfair that they aren't allowed to trade and how they want to run their country is their business.

Ah Gillette, you are so sweet, not!

You pick and choose what you want to enforce.

Personally, I don't care. I can be on subject too.

I'd love to be able to go to Cuba some day. I wish our government (USA) had diplomatic relations with Cuba. It seems like our government's stance hasn't helped the Cubans at all.

I think that our government's stance is influenced by the rich white Cubanos that fled when Bautista was ousted. These rich white Cubanos living in Florida and New Jersey want to go back to the days where they ruled the island and had extremely cheap labor for their plantations.

The average Cuban is better off under this regime. That's a sad statement. Most of the people in Cuba were oppressed before the revolution. The oppressor changed from the rich white Cubano capitalists to Castro and his regime.

Hopefully, some middle ground can be reached there someday.

You have that right.

Simcha, and truly, I mean this will all due respect, in that regard that's crap.

You have a personal vendetta against SS and you can't or won't let it drop. You're taking it from thread to thread and that's trolling (per the TOS). If it makes you cringe then stay away, isn't that what adults do?

That you can't see that makes me wonder, just who's being blinded?:biggrin1:

Well, I want to stay in Old Havana for a bit.
But Vinales looks to be only about 150 km west of Havana.
If I do it, I'll PM you while making my plans, dong.
(Sheesh, I can't believe how much you've traveled.)

Can you not go via South America? Ask them nicely not to stamp your passport. I won't tell.

Have some of you forgotten that Cuba allowed Russia to put nuclear warhead equipped missles on their island, and aim them at the United States? If we had given Castro a hotel room full of women like her, he wouldn't have turned to the Russians.

Unfortunately I'm a bit to nervous to do that given the current situation with our State Department. They tend to carry things to extreme. I want to visit Cuba. I do not want to visit Guantanamo Bay.

Girlie, are you chewing gum? Remember that you can't type and chew gum at the same time. That would occupy both of your brain cells. Remember you need one brain cell unoccupied so that it can resuscitate the other one that is exerting the effort it takes to function.

And congratulations on learning how to use google to be able to use the word, "embargo" correctly. Now you might be able to move from the Rodent House to the Chimpanzee House.
Shut up, dipshit
I had to recover from amnesia and I had to google "embargo" to be sure it meant what I thought it did.
I am always happy when I can remember words. It is actually called "word recall"
Having a frontal lobe injury impacts a person's language ability.
At least I'm beautiful and no one minded that much.
If it happened to you it would have been a tragedy. You would just be a big ,ugly, idiot.Who would have taken the time for you that they have for me?
Well, hopefully someone would have mercy on you.
Now, don't you need to get back to the buffet before they close?

If you like a good daiquiri, the rooftop bar of the Hotel Inglaterra serves about the best in town. Plus they have live (local) music and the barman was a Beatles fan. If he's still there of course!

It on opposite side of Parque Central to La Floridia and next to the theatre - which had spooky gargoyles if I recall. Seems like an age ago. Read some Graham Greene before you go.

Its a good point and I haven't forgotten it.

But Russia and China were happy to arm North Viet Nam with exotic weapons and those cost lots more US lives than Cuba ever did. And the US now happily does business with China and Viet Nam.

My question still stands: Why hate Cuba worse than others?

That's an era of geopolitics away, hootie.
The U.S. had missiles in Turkey ... aimed at the Soviet Union.
The United States was hardly acting like Cuba's friend at the time.

Graham Greene is always good.
I'm also an old Hemingstein buff ... so would want to go out to the Finca Vigia.
