I think that it's criminal that we isolate Cuba when we deal with the nasty Chinese. I think it's only because the Cubans don't have nukes that we feel like we can push them around. China gets some of our respect because they could possibly toast us.

Because in the United States if an infant is born weighing only 400 grams and not breathing, a doctor will likely spend lot of time and money trying to revive that infant. Education... ok literacy... US is at 99% and Cuba is at 99.7 or 99.8 pending the source. One country has 303 million ppl, the other has 11 million ppl. One forces children to go to school, the other (under the guise of the ACLU and every lib legal outlet) allows children to drop out of school, under the guise that government will support them via welfare.

One country has minimal resources yet achieves remarkable things in medicine and education ... and exports its medical sophistication around the Third World.

Last I checked.. I never heard of any American jealous of Cuban literacy or math scores vs Americans. Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Sweden, the UK, Italy,.... AKA countries that "matter" (sorry, but Cuba contributes little to global welfare) have equal literacy rates.

We haven't invaded (and won't invade) China because they have advanced weapons and a truly colossal army. Not to mention a big wall.

But the reason we give them the kwan that we don't give Cuba has more to do with their 1.3 billion consumers. They no longer have the military inferiority that they once had compared to the West, so we can't just go in with our guns and force them to buy crack from us like the Brits did once upon a time. We have to play nice if we want access to their markets.

Cuba continues to be on our shit list for many of the reasons faceking and others have already mentioned in this thread. It has everything to do with politics and nothing to do with realistic threat assessment. I think it also has a lot to do with pride and habit. Maybe things will change after Castro dies.

Why are you letting things escalate to the point of insane nastiness in some threads and then coming down like a ton of bricks on relatively minor things here?
