I eat out a lot. Much easier to just eat out than to make something for one person. But I hate to eat out by myself.

I miss having someone to talk with over food.

I hate eating alone. I get bored easily, a book or my laptop just doesn't cut it. I would suggest that you learn how to cook for one, it is not difficult and you will save a ton of money. I can make my dinner in about 15 minutes.

I usually eat alone at home, but I prefer to go out somewhere with friends. Eating is such a social activity, and it's really nice to catch up with someone and talk about the day. I'm thankful that I have a few good friends that are relatively easy to plan a meal with.

I always eat lunch with friends and it always goes overtime, but that's my daily indulgence. About half the time I eat alone at night and that's just fine as I prefer to eat very lightly at night. Plus going out for dinner means not eating until nine or so and I think it's not healthy to do so.

I love eating with others, but rarely get to in breaks at working situations, like the 1 1/2 hours between symphony rehearsals. Seems most classical musicians are very cliquey or too entrenched in their own personal lives.

But I eat twice a week with friends at the gay groups I attend, and occasionally one-on-one with closer friends.

On Thursdays, I love to hit a certain pizza place alone, where I get some free cookies, and do the new crossword in a local publication.

Of course, all home meals are alone. I do miss the breakfasts with a departed loved one.

I quite like cooking for one, but only when I have time to shop for quality ingredients. Heating something out of a tin is just depressing and I dislike take-out/junk food.

I sometimes travel for business and eat alone quite frequently. I got used to eating alone as I prefer a restaurant over room service in most cases. Some restaurants offer a great menu at the bar and typically I will have polite conversation with the bartender or others eating alone; otherwise I take a book or notebook and enjoy my own company and a great meal.
^This.

I used to feel anxious about eating alone when travelling on business, but, like Nudey, I'm not keen on room service. Now I'm more accustomed and have perfected my "no-I-don't-want-to-dine-with-you glare" to deter unwelcome advances from undesirables. [Why is a woman dining alone such an acceptable target?]

I've also met a number of interesting people, by chance while eating alone. Had I been there with friends / colleagues, I'd probably never have taken the opportunity to talk with others.
