I have a question for our British friends.

No they don't. I suppose yours have the driver on the "wrong" side so they can get out on the pavement side easily on their frequent stops? That's quite a good idea!

Knowing that when a Brit says 'pavement,' he means the sidewalk, you're right.
When we use the word 'pavement,' we more usually mean the road itself, which is usually paved.

Yes and also so they can place mail into curbside mailboxes without having to get out, I'm guessing.
Ours normally have to walk all the way to the front door too, to shove the letters in the letterbox, lol.
Keeps 'em healthy.

Like most things in the UK, near enough all traffic movement (Motor, Pedestrian, etc), is kept to the left, but you will find in some cases this is not followed.

EG when the layout of a supermarket gives you no alternative but to reverse this, like Morrisons in Bulwell, Nottingham, as it's been built back to front (Main entrance is on the right of the store, not the more commonly found left), compared to most of their sites, and is also backed up by their staff when I asked them, and one said all stores follow a certain layout, but this one site has to do the plans in reverse near enough.

I just realized that in England you guys must have the fast food drive thru windows at fast food places on the opposite side of the buildings.

Yes. Some people would lose a lot of weight simply by buying a left hand drive car. Perhaps my next fortune could be made by exporting right hand drive cars to the US. The DW diet plan. Stick shift of course, so that you also don't have a spare hand to eat whilst driving.

The Queen got stuck in a McDonalds drive-thru a few years back (seriously). She was opening a retail park called Cheshire Oaks, and the standard on top of her car was too big to pass under the height bar in the drive-thru. :biggrin1:

Yes, lazy buggers - none of this automatic nonsense.

I never knew that Canadia had been established by the Romans.
Wasn't it cobbled at the same time as Coronation Street?

So you covered all the Roman roads with Asphalt. Bloody Vandals.
Can't trust them with anything.

We should pebbledash the White House and fit uPVC windows. (I know he's Canadian, but if we're talkin N America in general...). ;)

Only after we'd used the cobblestones to kill all the politicos and all the lawyers.
It was fun.
We're good peeps, Drifter. Sorta honorary Welshmen.

Piker.
We burned down the White House, we did.
August 24, 1814.
They've been well behaved since.
You should try it.

Those cobblestone streets are awful. I remember driving on a few short ones in Newark NJ a few times.

Only bearable if you happen to be driving a Citroen (with pneumatic suspension), lol.

No, 1814, joll ... but during the War of 1812, sure.
And no, not any 'we' that includes a sulfurous son of St. David.
It was St. George and a bit of St. Andrew.
And burn down la Maison Blanche we did.

Funny, I wouldn't have pegged you as a Loyalist, but a free, proud Canadian.

If only. *sigh* Do us a favor, if ya'll come back, burn down the Capitol, or maybe the Supreme Court.
Better yet, the Pentagon.

Burning down the White House kinda misses the mark.

The Royal Regiment of Wales

"What was the 41st Foot's involvement in the Anglo-American war of 1812-1814?

The Anglo-American War of 1812-1814 saw the 41st Foot serving in Canada. Two private soldiers, Hancock and Dean, were specially commended in the General Orders for their valour at the opening encounters of the war. The General Commanding later described the 41st as 'an uncommonly fine regiment'. The 41st saw arduous campaigning during this period and over 100 men were seconded to serve as ship's crew in the naval ships and saw action in the Battle of the Lakes. This war saw the Battle Honours, Detroit, Queenstown, Miami and Niagara won by the 41st. Also of note is the fact that the Welch Regiment Museum holds the US National Color of the 4th American Infantry, the only one in British hands."
