The area around is pretty bruised as well. Are you allowed to shower or take a bath? I had surgery on Tuesday and it is already Friday. I did do a quick shower on Tuesday but did not shower/bath Wednesday nor Friday.

The pain you are experiencing is because they literally cut out a ton of veins and tied off the vein causing the trouble. I had pain from my nuts all the way to my navel because the vein is located on the spermatic cord that winds up and around your bladder. The nerves will literally be in shock for a while and the pain will subside only gradually and will most liekly re-occur. Although you will be able to have sex, you will probably feel a "pulling" during ejaculation, that, the first few times, may be painful and you may have residual pain so that you may not want to have sex. The good news is that it all heals in time.

If they implicitly to leave the tape on, then leave it on. If they told you to keep it clean, the only way to do that is to take off the tape in the shower but you best have a replacement for it after you clean and dry it so you can put another one on. I had disolvable sutures covered with gause and a tiny, extremely tight jock strap with only a hole for my penis but my incision was directly on my left nut. It took me a good 6 months to completely heal to the point where I no longer had to watch where I stepped because any jarring caused an instant kick in the nuts pain. Mine has come back and needs to be done again. I will do an embolization this time.

Make sure you eat if you are taking those nasty pain meds or you will get sick.

had my surgery back a few years, at first being in hospital didnt seem bad til had got up few days later and ride home though my wife was driving over rocks in the road, I lounged around and as long as laying down wasnt too bed but climbing stairs was bad though my nut was going to fall out an step on them, finally after 4 weeks was able to go back to work, but surgery has left me with a big sided testicle on that side, still very tender yet 10 yrs later

Is the tenderness right at the top? Can you sometimes see what may look like a smaller lump above your testicle? If so, yours, like mine, has returned. It has been 15 years since mine (see above post) and an embolization is way overdue.

Sounds like epididimitis. Have you had a round of antibiotics? But 10 years is an awful lot of time to put up with the pain. Sometimes the microscopic coils get twisted but you would be hard-pressed to find a Uro that knows what to do. This type of "male" pain is hugely ignored in the medical community. I remember my dad telling me when I had the varicocele that he felt that putting up with the pain was part of being a man. No wonder the son of a bitch was always meaner than shit!

I don't think I had to wear that damn thing as long as you. In fact, once I pulled all the little gause strings out of my sutures, I did not put it back on. Maybe that is why I was in pain for 6 months!

Sadly, those fucking doctors don't tell men how long the pain lasts and as you can tell by reading some of the responses above, it can vary A LOT! I know I was in pretty severe pain long enough for me to change music preferences, and take an entire quarter off from grad school. I think that my horniness won out as I was jacking almost every day and although it was a strange sensation and painful, it was a very gradual recovery. Were I you, I would make sure you are communicating regularly with your physician and try to depend more on ice than on drugs. I remember keeping ice on it, on and off, all day and night for at least a few weeks and I was in pain for at least 1 month. I had to "step lightly" for a full 6 months even with a jock.
Best wishes to you.

guys how do you put an icepack on the bruise? I took some ice cubes and put it in a bag. Am i suppose to put the bag with the ice directly on my bruise which is pretty area the area where i had surgery on or am i suppose to just put it over a towel or my pants for it to me like a layer? I never done this before.

Just wrap the ice in a towel and hold it to the sore spot. Do not let the ice touch your skin. When you go numb, remove the ice for a while. You can also put the ice in a plastic bag first to make sure that the water does not leak into your sore.

Watching where I step. When I first noticed this was when I was walking on the paved road and there was a low spot that I stepped into that caused immense groin (like getting kicked in the nuts) pain due to it takes next to nothing to make the nuts move around. *HOWEVER* I had the incision directly on my left testicle.

As for ice, use one of those ice bags you can get at a drug store. Then you don't have to mess around with a towel or bag. Put the bag wherever you are sore. Ice would have prevented the bruising but I am not sure about it helping to clear up the bruise that is already there.

Remember that any surgery is major. It will take time to heal and everyone heals at a different rate. Tuesday is only 1 week. I think you should notice a difference during week 2. That is why the urologist scheduled a follow-up for 10 days, to make sure things are healing normally. DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK QUESTIONS of the Urologist at that time. In fact, write down your concerns so you don't forget anything.

Hang in there dude! Let us know how the Dr. visit goes.

I dont know. It doesn't seem another week will help me at all. Can someone telll me the range of days it usually takes to recover from this where you can walk straight? I still have pain and those painkillers i take seem to not do anything for me.

Had varicocele surgery on both sides a few months ago. The first few days to week are rough, but it gets better. I had the worst headaches after the surgery, but now they are gone. I don't recall significant pain when standing. I would call the nurse and let them know how you are doing.

The scars I have are pretty bad, but they seem to be going away slowly. I have noticed that the pelvic area is still a little swollen and tender when pressed on.

As for the low testosterone, I had the same issue. No problems with erections but sperm count was low. Doctor put me on clomid to increase testosterone levels.

Hang in there!

Okay im getting very worried now. I masturbated yesterday as well so that meant 2 days in a row of masturbating about 15 days after the varicocele surgery. I noticed when i woke up in the afternoon today that my testicles look like it still has that sack of worms. 2 days ago when it was 15 days into the surgery, i did not see the varicocele. Could i have complicated it again?? I am so pissed off right now that i couldn't hold off masturbating any longer.

All the doctor said was no heavy lifting for another 7 days but did not mention masturbation. Right now i notice a bit of pain on my left side of the testicle. The only good thing about me masturbating was that i when i ejaculated, i released a lot of semen like i never have since before the accident. Im suppose to see doctor again in 6 weeks. Should i give him a call or see him earlier and tell him i am worried that my masturbation could have harmed the process and i might need to do another surgery?

I feel for you, I really do. When I do this again, it will be the embolization procedure. Nevertheless, if I remember correctly, you had pelvic surgery for this? It is my understanding from that procedure that they tie off the offending vein (s) meaning that whatever is in your scrotum will remain there but the flow of blood to them should not. I am thinking that the increased blood flow to your genitals during masturbation made it possible for you to again see the "worms." However, if you have any concern WHATSOEVER you should communicate that to the person who performed the surgery as they are the only one that knows what they did and what you can expect.
It is a total pain, I know and it takes a long time, I know but please don't drive yourself nuts by guessing. You need to contact the doctor. I would think that you would not be thinking about rushing into yet another surgery what with all you have been through so give this time to work.
Best wishes.
