I'd recommend the following :)

To Kill A Mockingbird - Harper Lee (a classic, and delightfully simple)
The Long Walk - Stephen King (more psychological than gruesome)

If all else fails... well, there's always fanfiction :)

Geek Love, by Katherine Dunn Novel about a 'carnival family.' I have "lent" this book to a few people, and, never got it back.

American Gods, by Neil Gaiman Gaiman has a few books out, which i loved. He also did a comic book series called The Sandman.

YUP --- Good One

Thinking of giving 'The Graveyard Book'
or 'Anansi Boys'
or maybe 'Coraline
'
a go.

I've read "Anansi Boys" liked it. "Neverwhere" is good. Think I prefered Neverwhare, but, Anansi Boys is good.

"Coraline" is one of his kids books. And, it's a bit scary. I liked it. A movie was made of "Coraline" that is good. It stays true to the book.

Geek Love - absolutely one of my favorite books!:biggrin1:

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children - Ransom Riggs.

so rearranged by top bookshelf to make room for this one.

if you want a bit of "world goes down in gnashing teething"

The Reapers Are The Angels - Alden Bell

Dust - Joan Frances Turner
