OMG. Damn. I'm SO glad that's over with.
Oh, sorry. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, most students enrolled in a Ph.D. program have to take one or more comprehensive exams in which they are tested over a wide variety of literature in a specific area of interest. Some exams are oral; some are written; some involve both. In my program, we take two exams during our third year. I just got word today that I passed my first one. I have one more in March, and then an oral defense after that. Once I jump through these hoops, I'm an official Ph.D. candidate and I can start work on my dissertation and teach. (Well, I'm teaching in the spring, but you get the idea.)
SO glad it's over with (for now)!
