    Texass, you keep getting prettier!

    I'm old, I remember gas at about .55/gal

    Matinee movies for a buck

    Penny candy really existed

    Hit Parader magazine was .35!

    The Road Runner was the most violent thing on tv (and kids my age NEVER dropped anvils on anyone!)

    Strangers were just people I hadn't met yet (ah, the joys of growing up in the country)

    Gas doubled in price. The year was 1973.

    This is a dangerous topic!

    I remember gas @ $.26 per gallon. and it was Humble in Texas not Esso or Exxon and Gulf Oil not Standard or Chevron or what ever it is today.

    I remember Kennedy. Hell, I remember Eisenhower. I remember John XXIII, the last good Pope.

    I remember

    When gas was 18 cents a gallon and the station down the street charged 17 cents, starting a gas war in the neighborhood: how low could they go?

    TV was only on after sunset on weekends.

    Soap operas were on the radio - and their sponsors were really soaps and detergents.

    Ball point pens were new - and they sucked.

    3-D movies.

    Poodle Skirts and short shorts.

    Ozzie and Harriet.

    The Frisbee was still a pie pan.

    Blackjack chewing gum.

    "Duck and Cover!" drills in school.

    Drive-in Movies.

    When milkshakes were 'malted milk' and hamburgers with lettuce and tomato were Deluxe for 10 cents more.

    Time to shut up.

    I remember:

    * Fuel efficiency was a selling point for a US made automobile.

    * When highway signs along US interstates showed distances in kilometers.

    * Savings accounts routinely paid above 15% annual interest.

    * Lyndon Johnson's funeral.

    * Neil Armstrong stepping on the moon.

    * The Shah of Iran piloting his own 707 out of Tehran just ahead of an angry mob.

    * Patty Hearst, the Black Panthers, Viet Nam, and the Zodiac killer.

    * Pope John-Paul I.

    * When George Bush I assured us the Emir of Kuwait was going to take steps toward establishing democracy in Kuwait after Gulf War I.

    * The airlines were going to get tough on enforcing carry-on bags policy.

    * The furor over school bussing.

    * Proposition 13.

    * Rotary dial telephones.

    * Seatbelts were rarely worn.

    * Charles de Gaulle's funeral.

    You reminded me, Speedo.

    I remember phones with no dials - you picked up the receiver and the familiar voice of the operator immediately greeted you by name and you asked her how she was doing before you asked for the 4-digit number you were calling.

    I also remember the Party Line. If you couldn't afford your very own line you were forced to share it with the neighbors. Each family had its own ring (ours was one long, one short) and only one family could talk on the phone at one time, although any family could pick up the receiver and hear the conversation. It was frustrating as hell to be a kid on a party line when the old bag down the street wouldn't shut up and hang up no matter what kind of emergency you concocted.

    I'm only 26 years old, and my first fifteen years were spent in Cuba.

    But I do remember Michael Jackson before he was a white woman.

    Supposedly vitiglio. But I'm pretty sure his multiple plastic surgeries on his nose don't. Oh, that's another thing related to being molested: Self-mutilation.
