I am only 11 months older than DMW but...

I remember when Saturday morning cartoons were really good!

I remember when video killed the radio star.

I remember Finger of Fudge candy bars not to mention Dinosour Eggs and PAL bubble gum.

I remember when tying a bandana around your thigh al a Punky Brewster was cool.

I remember the last record I bought.

I remember wanting to be a Solid Gold Dancer.

I too remember when Michael Jackson wasn't a white woman but I also remember when Joan Rivers didn't look like an alien.

heh, I feel rather young right now, but here goes...

I remember when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were the only thing worth living for

I remember when Zelda came out for Nintendo and it was the coolest thing ever

I remember life before reality tv

I remember hyper-color t-shirts

I remember when Apple was the only computer brand worth buying

I remember owning an Atari

I remember when there was an actual demand for fuel efficient cars and gas could still be found for less than a dollar

I remember:

when gas was 75 cents per gallon
when stamps were 22 cents
you didn't have to dial the area code for long distance calls
they made a candy called Bonkers - and it was great!
coca-cola changed its formula and it sucked!
Marc Singer looked really hot in Beastmaster
The Benny Hill show
tv dinners were in foil and you had to cook them in the oven and they tasted like crap
watching the Challenger explosion live in class
Pack Rat sneakers
parachute pants
breakdancing
when Pauly Shore had an afro
When m&m's had 2 shades of brown and when the red ones were banned

when gas was 27.9 cents per gallon
when stamps were 5 cents
you had no direct dial for long distance calls - local numbers were 5 digits
they made a candy called Hersheys for 5 cents
coca-cola came in glass bottles with a deposit
Clint Eastwood was on a TV western
The 3 stooges reruns - uncut
tv dinners were named TV Dinner, were new and tasted like crap - (some things never change)
watching the Alan Sheppard flight live in class
PF Flyers sneakers
non-jeans were the only pants permitted in school
the twist
when Johnny Carson had hair (full head of it and dark)
When m&m's had 2 shades of brown and when the red ones were still there

I remember when M&Ms had two shades of brown. I also remember when M&Ms were candy. (Sorry, but a cheap joke about ecstasy was just too easy there.)

Well when your 10 you tend to not notice about the fuel prices. I do remember the old ring dial phones though, i liked the little dic-a-dic-a-dic it did after you dialed a numerb. The only event I actually remember happening around that time was the gulf war and the genicide in Africa.

I could name you about 104 bands and various TV moments I remember though. Such is the memory of a child brought up during the 90's.

anyone else remember when handouts in school were blue and white instead of xeroxed copies and everyone would sniff the pages if they were just freshly printed?

Ah, yes, TAG, the old spirit duplicator! Amazing, isn't it, that we sniffed the stuff from Kindergarten through our senior year in high school and it had no ill effects.

These days the stuff is outlawed because it's 'hazardous' to the kids' health!!

I remember black boards made of slate and cleaning chalky erasers in the school basement by rubbing them on a brick wall.

My six grade teacher set up some assigment where we all took a topic from our science book and taught it to the rest of the class. We had to make our own handouts and everything. For that assignment, we even got to use that old thing that made those blue prints.

Also, we used to throw our erasers against the school to beat the chalk out of them.

As for a personal memory - which is still dating me a little - I recall listening to George Michael's "I want your sex" on someone's jambox on the playground and the teachers making a huge fuss over it. That was the same year I got spankings from the principal for calling someone a nerd. :spank:

We used to have copydex AKA fish glue, it smelt awful but you just had to smell it, much like pritt stick or playdoh.

Also, when i was in high school our science depatment burnt down, so to save money instead of buying new science books our school "cleaned" them. For months we would crave wookbook lessons just so we could send 50 mintues sniffing the books. They smelt like bounce (a smelly sheet you'd put in your dryer to make your clothes smell nice.)

Come to think of it, maybe I know now why my kids screamed hysterically when I went in to tuck them in at night.

It looks like the caption beneath it should say, "Come here, little girl I've got something to show you! " LOL!
