I have a virus on my computer and I suspect it is from looking at too much porn.

Any anti-virus suggestions? It also seems to have taken over my Internet Explorer browser.

I'm asking here because I presume I am not the only one that has had this happen, porn-watching and all.

AVG is full of spyware itself, and should not be run in conjunction with any other virus scanner.

I use Avast for anti-virus, and MalwareBytes & SpyBot for anti-malware/anti-spyware.

If your browser has been hijacked it may be "Antivirus Pro 2008" or some variant of that. MalwareBytes is probably the only user-friendly cure for that.

I have lost more computers to some questionable web browsing. I have been much more careful nowadays. I think a little "web-wisdom" goes a long way (as I have not lost my current cpu and it is about 3 yrs old. But in the mean time here are my suggestions:

#1 Stop using file sharing services like limewire, morpheus etc. Ever since I stopped that I have not lost a cpu to this day.
#2 Have a CD rom of Windows and MS Office ready to go if you have to reformat your hard drive. If you have a gateway or dell computer - have your restoration cds ready. Be prepared to reformat your hard drive. Save all your important files to disks.
#3 remove Norton anti-virus. It is a virus itself. Replace it with eset.com's antivirus. Doing that one thing alone has tripled the speed and reliability of my cpu.

Anti-spyware, ad-ware programs don't TRUELY work. They will find them occasionally but my experience has shown that no matter how many viruses and bots they find on your cpu, the removal of the programs doesn't ever have a noticeable improvement in the speed and or performance of my computer. However, a periodic reformatting of my hard-drive is equivilent to buying a brand-new computer. But as I said earlier, you need all the necessary software to do this - 1. Windows, 2. Office, 3. eset anti-virus and 4. back-up cds of all your files.

Hope this helps.

Stratedude, I used to sell NOD32 (by Eset), and it is not as good as it once was. I managed to slip 5 different infected files past it, and Avast picked all 5 viruses up immediately (on a separate test machine). I took it off of all of my systems at home and work. You are right, Norton is ridiculous and Eset's products are much better for resource use, but for effectiveness Avast is the best of the home use products.

Now, if you want pure virus-stopping power, use Bit Defender Pro! Slow as fuck, but it gets the job done.

I don't assume that has a free version

I use Vipre. It's pretty decent so far and light on resources. Has some pretty advanced tricks for finding viruses that other products don't. It's not free, but a home license for all your machines is cheap. Has a free trial too.

Please don't take this as an insult, because I am a cheap bastard myself (so I can relate) - this is purely advice - if you won't part with at least $40-60 for a good antivirus program such as the ones stated above, you can pull this off, but be prepared to do a sudden reformatting of your hard drive at a moment's notice at any time. In other words, don't have anything important on your computer (that isnt backed up) if you are ever connected to the internet.

Yeah, instead of using free software and fixing your issues you should fork out a grand on a Mac, or ignore your infection and use Firefox.

Why do Mac people think that "buy a Mac" is good advice to fixing a spyware infection?

1st: You could try linux with a live cd version, and if you like it, install it on a partition.
2nd: On windows I use firefox + comodo firewall (great program) and from time to time i run ad-aware and SuperAntiSpyware free edition.
