You could buy a really good MIDI Controller keyboard with weighted keys and buy a really good software synth that has really good pianos sampled into it. There are some really good Rhodes piano sounds in some of the software synths. You need a MIDI interface with your PC. And you have to tweak your MIDI keyboard's latency to sync up your keyboard with the software synth. Once you do that...you are ready for some piyanner.
I have some really good piano sounds in my digital audio workstation in my studio. I even have some Hollywood Orchestral Strings sounds in there.
Any recommendations? I got the cheapest workable setup I could, to familiarize myself before spending time / wealth.
The keys on this MIDI keyboard are tacky and stick after extended disuse. And pressing too many keys can cause issues.
Current preferences:
Long rows of keys... small keys are maybe better (can fit more into the same space).
Two or three layers of keys. (one keyboard over another)
Something that can be reworked digitally (computer).
Ideal:
A setup that can packed into a suitcase or smaller.
