There are many accepted sci-fi cliches that don't really need to go into detail, blasters and such. One of them isn't floating mountains that gush water with seemingly no water source. I don't really care about the hybrids, considering that if they can artificially create a hybrid species, I'm sure a facelift isn't difficult.

A lot of species main language wasn't English in Star Wars. After all C3PO was a protocol droid programmed with 3000+ languages. He wouldn't be very useful if everyone spoke English.

Good point! We do know it floats stuff right?

It doesn't float stuff! There is nothing in the movie that says or shows this! The only time you ever see any of it is that one piece he has as a executive toy essentially, and the only time it is floating is when it is over that disc with the light. That is what makes it float.

And there is none of it in the mountains, that isn't why the float. They gave the brief flux explanation for that. If I am wrong and the mountains were chock full of it, then this movie just became all kinds of more stupid, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt here and saying I am right.

A point my other half raised about the floating mountains - Where was the source of water for the waterfalls which fell off the side of the mountains?

Public bathrooms?

I enjoyed the digital 3D. I came away without a headache. I saw Micheal Jackson's 3D thing at Disney years ago and a few other 3D stuff and this was by far the best.

I only wish Cameron had filled the holes in the story better and left the white messiah bit alone.

Over all I enjoyed the movie however, it did not tingle my intellectual bits at all. lol
I have read better Sci Fi books that did it for me.

I didn't get that it floated stuff either. If that's the only reason they are there, tell us why absurdium is so valuable.

Here is what would have made sense. Yes the absurdium is an anti gravity material, and it never wears out. They need it on earth for space exploration or whatever. Yes the mountains contain it in the soil and that is why they float, but the humans do not know this (because it is scattered in trace elements), or maybe they do, but they can't get it because extracting it is impossible because the mountain will collapse on the equipment.

The aliens speak English because the base was established many years ago and some were taught how to speak it.

At least if you are going to say it's science fiction don't make it dumb.

Another thing that was confusing was when Sigourney was the Alien hybrid at the end and not the same one as earlier, unless I missed something.

PS the girl who played that female Alien chick was a horrible voice actress. The overacting was terrible.

The mountains seemed too rocky to me to have a whole lot of soil, and if it was just in the soil, why wouldn't the soil just float up instead? As far as extracting it, that would be pie if it floated. Get a big strong net and anchor it above the target mountain. Blow the target mountain up in to much more manageable parts, go from there.

I didn't notice a difference between the avatar that Grace used, they all looked the same to me.

What I didn't like was that the Avatars were supposed to be human and alien hybrids but they looked pretty much like all the other aliens.

I'll bite. Maybe the avatars were physiologically 99.9% Na'vi, with 0.1% genetic tampering to make the brain receptive to human consciousness beamed via satellite.

The air was toxic, the hybrids needed to be mostly Na'vi genetics.
The main goal of creating the hybrids was to infiltrate or blend in to some degree.

The Na'vi also had those 'consciousness linking' glowing cords which probably made it easier to interface with their bodies.

Water vapor evaporates up into the atmosphere and settles on the mountains, condenses and pools. On earth this wouldn't be much water but the planet is supposed to be huge (?).

The floating rock/ boulder has a different composition, being more porous it absorbs more water.

----

Ok, I know those are stretches. :)
I think they could have geeked the movie up to a proper sci-fi level but then again it was mass marketed and I'm not sure most like the "sci"... moreso, the "fi."

Waterfalls can only happen from flowing rivers. Cameron said fuck it, it's a good visual. The CGI animators probably came up with it.

Unobtanium does not float. It's value is that it was very, very, very strong yet very, very, very light making it very, very, very expensive, hence, profitable enough to travel to another planet to mine it.

*Real life fact - we're starting to make something similar even now. (kinda makes the whole film redundant, nevermind floating mountains)

Mem, Grace died prior to the battle. The character performing the rites over Jake's transfer was the priestess.

You ain't kidding.

I'm reading all over the internet many different opinions on the technology of Digital 3D. The actual wording Digital 3D was suppose to be Disney's making and referred to movies they produced using a lot of the same techniques that were used in movies recently done including Avatar. It seems there are many reasons why the quality of the 3D experience could be lacking. Some are caused by the individual and some are caused by the cinema setup and some are due to the actual projectors being used. People wearing eye wear just can't get the same effect as people who don't need glasses. The new 3d glasses have to be at a good angle to the screen and where you actually sit in perspective to the screen makes a difference. I have a condition which is simular to cataracs which is a cloudyness of the lens and I think 3D would just make me sick if I tried it. I know I get a headache if I try to wear those red and blue 3d glasses I don't know if the same would occur if I used the Digital 3D glasses. If you have anykind of difficulty with seisures I wouldn't go to the 3D movie, there is a flashing between the right eye frame rate and the left eye frame rate and this could make sensitive people sick.

I'm just repeating stuff I've read today because I was seriously thinking about going today thinking there would be some price break for a matinee but it's like 12.75 fo see the 3D version and 9.25 to see the 2D version. That alone don't make sense to me.

Welling playing movies in 3D requires them to run two projectors. Of course the ticket prices are already inflated I'm sure though.

The point of the film wasn't why Unobtanium is valuable or why there's a place where mountains float in midair or what makes the air poisonous or any other comic book nerd details, which is why they weren't explained.

The 3D in this film was BETTER than the 3D in most 3D films because it was used to emphasize the astounding imagery, not as a gimmick. If there had been a scene where the character juggled 3D apples or did a spit-take at the audience, I would have been pretty disgusted.
