I'm so sick of this winter. Had 60" of snow so far, my part of Iowa. Had another 6" this morning.

The fools pass you going 70 MPH on snow and ice packed roads.
Sure enough, you see that vehicle in the ditch 5 miles down the road.
4 WD or AWD mainly.

I bought a new Subaru Forester AWD last spring. It gets around great.
Still drive it 35-40 MPH in this crap, just like the old front wheel drive Impala.

Saw a few of them upside down in the ditch today. Some people have no common sense.

I don't mind driving on bad roads one bit. **If I was the only one out there**
The other's scare the crap out of me. Just needed to vent!

I know your story well. I’m dealing with massive amounts of snow so far with yet another storm on the way this weekend. Now it’s more snow over ice with salt supplies at bare minimum if any. I hate being on the road with reckless drivers. I pull over if anyone gets to close to me. These are the fools I’ll see later on being pulled over, flipped, or in the ditches. Stay safe.

Saw another one in the ditch this AM driving to work. Ford F-150 4WD tires up.

Maybe this one learned a hard lesson.

Don't really care how they drive.....as long as I am home in my

house.

On the road is another story. They put my life in danger.

Back the fuck off and don't follow 2 car length's behind me.
Pass on the left and don't pull in front of me 2 car length's away.

Just let me have my "safe zone" when the roads are icy!

Just happy spring is almost here and this crap will be over for awhile.

I sympathize. I was in the car business when front wheel drive made its big resurgence. The big selling point was "It's great in snow." That was true (still is) but it does not mean you can stop easily, get stuck or slide into an accident or skid wildly out of control. I saw the same stupidity when AWD became more of a thing. I loved in DC and the surrounding area for a long time and the people there do not handle any bad weather very well at all. Even a small amount of snow was enough to turn the area upside down.

I'm retired now, so I stay home when the snow comes because the stupid factor is still massive. Last snow a teacher at a nearby middle school got stuck at the intersection I live next to. She drove into plowed snow trying to make a left turn on a road that was closed for construction. She pounded on my door demanding I come out and shovel her car out of the pile she was stuck in. I told her no, because I don't shovel snow period. (I do, but the attitude and stupidity pissed me off). She returned to her car (a Subaru) and was cussing when a man who shovels snow to make extra money offered to help. He started digging her out an she's yelling at him to go faster because she has to get home NOW. I would have used the shovel on her head, but this guy just kept digging. When he got her free she spun out, and no she did not offer him a dime.

As the comedian said, "There is no pill for stupid."

Omg, I hear you! It happens here all the time! Icy, snow covered roads with 95% of the people driving slowly and carefully, and then comes Mr. Important (what is he doing? Transporting human organs?) flying by, cutting people off, causing chaos, and throwing snow. Next thing you know you see him in the ditch or up on the curb. (Hope he wasn’t really transporting organs).

It snows here every year. The roads get bad every single year. No matter how good your tires are, when it’s glare ice, those tires aren’t magically going to help you stop.

I hear you all about the drivers on snow and ice. I learned to drive in an area that had winter snow and black ice so I know how to drive in these conditions. For work I moved to an area that gets very little long term snow so the drivers try to drive like the road is clear even with 4w drive and AWD going their normal speed and way of stopping. More than a dusting of snow brings the region to a stand still for hours. Autos with 4W drive and AWD do help but street tires are not the best for winter traction, that is why they make winter tires and traction devices. I think that all drivers should learn how to use traction devices and use them when the weather calls for them and slow down you will get there in one piece and most likely just as fast. I am retired so when it is icy or there is snow on the road I stay home and don't mess with the crazy fools on the roads.

People who move here from out of state who claim to know how to drive in the snow are the biggest problem here where I live. It RARELY snows here, ever. When it does it usually doesn't even stick. Every few years it'll really dump on us. Every Time, you see overly confident drivers hauling ass like they own the fucking road.

Every time I hear someone complaining about how "slow the locals drive in the snow" it's some idiot from out of state who thinks that because they've driven in similar conditions more than once in their lives they can blow by everyone else who's being cautious. *They* are the ones causing fuckin accidents.

I love all the people with 4WD / AWD that think nothing can stop them. See it every bad storm.

Push the gas pedal, and yes they go good, but they don't turn or stop any better than a 2WD.
They can't seem to figure that out. See them in the ditch a few miles down the road. Bad thing for them,
our part of interstate installed those cables last summer in the medium. Keeps folks from crossing and
hitting people going the other direction. That tears the crap out of vehicles! Lesson learned there.

I LOVE my new Subaru Forester and it get's around great! But I still never drive it faster, than I am willing
to ride into the ditch at the same speed.
