Let's get back to the part where you called me a gay-liberal basher. That's the meat of this particular back-and-forth.

And then your buddy threatening to beat me up because he doesn't like a phrase I used.

Both of these are STELLAR methods of drawing an opposing party to your viewpoints. Are you trying to make me see this topic through your eyes using these methods? Be ashamed of yourselves.

Cutting off a driver who happens to be Jewish doesn't make me an Anti-Semite. Disagreeing with you does not make me a gay-liberal basher. You know that, but in the heat of putting me in my place you decided it was appropriate to label me as such.

You'd beat the living shit out of me? Oh gosh, please continue internet tough guy. And yes, a topic where there is no dissent is a self-licking one. Don't agree with me, fine, threaten physical violence...well there's the way to win a discussion. Maybe you should learn to grow up and not care what someone says?

And let me know when you write up your op-ed on your eye-witness account of the "attack" from 45 years ago. I've been bullied and 20+ years on I, the person experiencing the event, can't recall who did what or what really happened... maybe if I was gay I'd be more cognizant of the details.. I doubt it though.

Actually on the internet I'm much more reserved than I am IRL. Dissent does not require you to resort to childish insults and name calling. No, I don't agree with you. But there are others here with whom I don't agree and yet with whom I can have a civil discussion and exchange of ideas without resort to insults.

I believe 4 persons provided their eyewitness accounts of the incident and Mitt Romney did not deny their recollection. For me that is substantial evidence of the truth of their recollections.

Who insulted you? Who called you a name? Nobody did. Pretty sure I am the only one holding that distinction presently. Observe:

By the if you way, if you called me a self licking ice cream in real life, I'd beat the living shit out of you.Maybe you should moderate the language you choose to use. Just because you're anonymous and online doesn't mean all civility needs to be thrown to the wind.

Personally, I'd like to see you take your gay-liberal bashing and put it where Mitt has apparently put his.

You took a generalized statement to the entire thread and applied it specifically to yourself, and then threatened violence. "Self licking ice cream cone" is a phrase very often used to describe a self validating idea.. or anything that exists for the sake of itself. You could easily have asked me what I was saying before telling me how I needed to talk in a forum and then telling me how you'd deal with me in person. You didn't say it, but your friend implied that I'm not physically able to beat anyone up who doesn't agree with me. That's where both of you fail in your defense of the topic.

Again, calling me childish is a mark on you. Threatening violence is a mark on you. I'm not insulting you or calling you out beyond the internet tough guy remark. I give two rat's asses if you don't like how I talk, and I would expect your opinion to be likewise.

I did read the accounts from friends of Mr. Romney, it's a political shill. I don't care what teenage Mr. Romney did or what teenage Mr. Obama did, or anything in-between. I care about their plans on the economy, their plans on maintaining world relationships, their domestic programs, education reform, military spending.

What Mr. Romney did 45 years hence is between him, his conscience and the family of the victim....and the family has made it clear they do not want this used politically.

I agree with them, and yet people who have anything to gain from this politically do not agree. THAT is monstrous and unconscionable.

I didn't say you insulted me or called me a name. I said you use insults and name calling in your posts, and you have. This certainly doesn't lend any credibility to your posts even were they to contain anything of substance.

You took a generalized statement to the entire thread and applied it specifically to yourself, and then threatened violence. "

I didn't apply your comment specifically to me and didn't threaten violence. I merely told you what my reaction would be were you to use such language to me in person.

Again, calling me childish is a mark on you. Threatening violence is a mark on you. I'm not insulting you or calling you out beyond the internet tough guy remark. I give two rat's asses if you don't like how I talk, and I would expect your opinion to be likewise.

That's fine but don't expect any meaningful engagement with such a caustic attitude.

And yet how he handles the situation today is very relevant and says much about the candidate.

It's right there in black and white in your post bud, you threatened physical violence because of how I talk.. because you either didn't understand or didn't like the phrase I used (which, I'll throw this out there for you, I did use it incorrectly in my original post...it's supposed to be representative of a topic or idea, not directed at people).

You're the only one who voiced an opinion to the specific phrase, labeled it insulting and childish and balked at it. So yes you did indicate I insulted you and called you a name...indirectly, but all the same. Don't try to change the tenor of your response by backtracking with "what I said was." Just say you don't appreciate how the term was used and be done with it.

I'm not here to fit into your mold of acceptable debate practices and courtesies, so until you wear a moderator hat keep it to yourself or report me.

You're right, what I stated is there in black and white and I'm happy to let it stand for itself. Now, in the interest of not letting this thread veer any further off course, I won't be responding to any more of your posts that don't deal directly with the topic of the OP.

But image matters in presidential elections, more than it does anywhere else. .....

It's also a problem when the candidate has spoken frequently of the urgent need to fix the U.S. education system

Friend of mine went on a rant about this very topic when the story first came out. He said something I dismissed as just part of his angry babble that I have slowly begun to see differently. He called Mitt a "sociopathic monster". Doesn't seem like much, but looking at the stories of his youth, his methods at Bain, and the blatant lies he just makes up during his campaigns... Everyone does stupid thinks as kids, we all do questionable things at some point as adults, and politicians have made lying into a way of life, but this is something totally different. I think he really is a sociopath.

Profile of the Sociopath

The thought of this man in the white house is... unsettling...
