Oh a laze in dappled all'ombra di un albero di olive benvendo vino dolce e naturalmente il pane il fromaggio su un vecchio cashmere coperta.
Manca solo un compagno di condividere i miei sospiri contento.

Sixième, mon cher?

It's true I have no idea where hazelgod would want to live. Passy suits most, but since he's just so ancien regime... There's an accent for the seizieme as I recall, I don't know if there are any Noailles left or how much faubourg st-germain (sixieme) there is, probably some, but I don't know who the Guermantes family was based on. I should look up the arrondissement for ile-St-Louis, which I went to every day, living right across on rue de l'hotel de ville. Ile-St-Louis is piss-perfect. There is the Rothschild Mansion at one end of it I remember well.

Oh, I see what it was about, he had written 'sevener' and the hour had passed...

Ile St Louis and Ile de la Cite are in the 4th, so I was in same arrondissement. The Marais market just up the street, that was sublime, I don't know how much of it is still there.

The journey from Paris to Tuscany is much shorter than between Austin and Brisbane...

That's where Leona lived before and after jail, and where she would swim laps--to reward herself if she did 'just one more', she had a servant feed her a single shrimp at the end of some laps. I suppose the ghosts would be nice, but the new apartments at the top of the Chrysler Building (c. 1997) would be even more rarefied, I'd imagine. If I want to think about Leona, I think I'll just go look at her and Harry's Mausoleum, which has stained glass of real estate they owned, the weird-ohs..I saw her in Carl Schurz Park sitting alone in a flamboyant yellow pantsuit, and screamed 'HI!' because she was still appearing in NYTimes Magazine ads for the hotels, like 'I wake up to a huge bath towel every morning, why shouldn't you?' She was most annoyed, but she had no business sitting in public parks unescorted, since nobody was going to sympathize with her among the proles. She found out she'd have to stick to the Joan Rivers Show for that (also long-gone).

Ah yes the "Queen of Mean", just finished reading a kinda biography of hers, what a Superbitch, wish i was her doggie though with all them millions WOOF!!!

HAHAHA you gotta be kidding! Unless you're a fan of beer & bad sausages,
german cuisine is the worst in Western Europe.

No, it's wonderful when well prepared--pigs' knuckles and sauerbraten, all sorts of cakes. As a toulousain, I can see why you wouldn't go for most of it, as it's not quite cuisine in the same sense as SW France, but a Swiss friend of mine does a magnificent Cassoulet and other toulousaine dishes, but knows the power of Munich's (esp.) savoury and earthy food.

The same is true of really good English cuisine. The reason the northern European countries have bad reputations for food is that, in terms of restaurants, you cannot just go anywhere and expect it to be good, you have to research it (which I did in England, and when I veered from my plans, I got real crap). Whereas in France, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, you can just walk in almost anywhere and expect something carefully prepared without having to think about it. Of course, as Art Cuisines, the French and Italian and Spanish are more refined--but hearty English and/or German food can't be beat either.

I couldn't live in the US right now, no offence - even though florida or cali would be very tempting.

Too prudish, too many sects, too many Bushes, too many wars, too many policemen and police state (that we are importing here in the UK damn it).

I've been told by a friend who visited some year ago, that I wouldn't like it, and he knows my tastes very well.

he told me people are literally scared and policemen beat you up if you're not always "yes sir" "yes sir" "of course sir" when they stops you in your car.

not to mention now they have tazers!!!

Yeah i got really fed up with being roughed up by cops everytime i get pulled over. I don't even stop for them anymore. It helps to have a fast car and to know the back roads.

I don't think I'd like the starving and getting tortured and having to get down on all fours and stick my ass up in the air and pray ninety times a day bullshit but you gotta admit most of those durka durka joints seem to have a pretty good handle on uppity women.

I don't think I'd be willing to lose my American citizenship to move somewhere else. I love this country, in spite of all its' current problems.
My family has a house in Ireland, and I've been many times. But as proud as I am of being of Irish descent, I still cherish my being an American above all else.
I do not consider myself Irish-American, but American-Irish.
If I had to movesomewhere other than this country, I guess I'd chose Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, or Banff, Canada, as I prefer cooler climates to more tropical ones. New Zealand looks awful pretty as well, as does Amsterdam, Netherlands. I probably would enjoy Scandinavia, (Finland,Norway, Sweden and Denmark)
My sister lived in Germany for a while and really loved it. She said they are compulsive neat freaks though.

I have the choice NOT to live in the USA and therefore I do not. I'm still a US citizen, but life -- for me -- is much more liberating in Spain and Argentina. It never ceases to sadden me that when I return to the USA I know there are people with whom I do business who would kill me simply because I'm gay. For such a "fabulous" place, the USA is not as open and free a society as it was in the 1960's through the 1990's.

Then again, I would never consider living in any part of the U.K., either.

kill you, thats bull crap. you better stay in spain then, for you saftey. I don't think there is a better place to live other then the US. Except possibly on a different planet somewhere.

We have a summer home in Gananoque Ontario, Canada, on one of the Thousand Islands. Canada is so incredible beautiful. If I have to really choose I think I would move to Sweden.

I also love, Austria, Switzerland, the south of France.

If the only thing you ever ingested in Germany was beer and a sausage maybe you should think about expanding your horizons. Lots of great chefs in Germany, try one next time instead of buying a sausage from a street vendor.

If you're rich, USA are indeed the better mall on the planet. If you don't have many money, you'll be living a far more easy and pleasant life eslewhere in the world where you're not left on the street if you can't pay your rent or your chemotherapy. Plus the women have absolutely no class.

Having say that i live in the south of France and dream to live in New York.

No Way! Schnitzel, sauerbraten, a nice ice cold Riesling are all delish. I know people that when they travel to England and Ireland pack their own food.

If had to live somewhere other than America I would live in Tuscany. My soul is at peace in Tuscany.
