So, I'll be in Edinburgh for 5 days starting tomorrow. For those of you who've been there, or better yet live there, what are the things I must see and do?

Well I took the Castle Tour and had lunch at St.James Shopping center and had a massage at the Spa at the Carlton Hotel. Go visit the shore villages too. Have fun.

Have fun dodging the roadworks for relaying the tram lines!

The castle's worth a visit as is Hollyrood Palace. There are all sorts of weird and wonderful buildings down in the grassmarket and if you're into pubs, Rose street is a must.
If you're there for the scene, there are a couple of saunas and some bars too.
As NY said, the shore villages are pretty interesting too.

    (I prefer Glasgow though.)

What viking UK said, prefer Glasgow (It should be the capitail, not Edinburgh!!)

I'm from Glasgow myself, Only been to Edinburgh a few times myself, not much there, city center isn't much to talk about, only good thing there is the castle, and the view of it. One other thing is the ghost tour which is alright, maybe if your 15. Some interesting facts tho.

Thanks for the tips, guys. Keep them coming. I won't be able to reply after tomorrow morning although I'll be able to read. (I've got a new Blackberry and I can read the e-mail (and pms)but replying to lpsg threads is a bitch on it.)

If anyone is in Edinburgh and wants to get together for a drink, pm me.

I will, Nude, thanks. How was Hawaii? Everything in order and on schedule?

As others have said do one of the night time walking tours that take in the hidden underground vaults. This is a great restaurant too after you have done the tour. (at least it was when I was last there 5 years ago)

You could visit the Royal Yacht Britannia in Leith docks.

The pubs are good in both Rose street in the new town and the Royal mile in the old town.

I'm another who prefers Glasgow after having lived there for a few years. It's only 40 minutes on the train so easily placed for a good day out. If you decided to do this let us know and we can give you some pointers on Glasgow too.

    Best of Edinburgh Edinburgh Castle

Mons Meg is a cannon - just in case you were wondering. :biggrin1:

I don't think that I would spend 5 days in Edinburgh, maybe two. Rent a car, get up to the Great Glen, see Stirling Castle, the Lochs, the West Coast.

Make sure you have some hang over cures and I dare you to have deep fried Haggis for breakfast.

PS there was a nice quiet pub I went to called The Regent, don't know if it's still there, but the people were very nice.

Castle, Palace, the Meadows, and hiking up Arthur's Seat. I'd also take the train to Glasgow if you have time for the day.

You can go to the water, but you don't have to. I wish I was still living there!

Oh and, PS, it's kind of important you go to a pub and get drunk.
