Perhaps you're too young (or whatever) to recall Ricky Martin's entire career being killed in a matter of minutes when Barbara Walters asked him if he was gay in the 90's. It never recovered really but took about 20 years for him to be seen on Broadway, in American Crime Story, etc. She claimed it was her greatest career regret, but then asked Oprah if Gayle is her lesbian lover and asked Kirstie Alley if John Travolta was gay, so she's full of shit. Some gays have VERY short memories.

Some gay men suffer from post traumatic closeted disorder, so anytime a question comes up that could possibly be indicative of homosexuality--they spaz out. Not everyone is insecure about their sexuality.

I'm old enough to know what happened, and also I'm young enough to know that time has changed and now is not a taboo as it was 20 years ago.
I don't exactly see the question posed as related to "insecure about their sexuality" but more privacy. Some of us just don't see a reason to discuss our bedroom activities with the world. I'm out but don't walk up to people I meet for the first time and say "Hello, my name is Anthony, I'm gay and have sex with me". First, wth business is it of anyone else whom I sleep with, and more to the point, that's only one part me. It may be my upbringing or age though. I freely admit I'm an old fart, and I was raised by 2 old school parents. Sex and sexuality, gay or straight, was never talked about more than one-on-one when there was a concern or issue.

As you said, 20 years ago. The world has changed drastically, so your argument makes no sense. They're not being forced to answer the question, they can choose not to.
