It's about time that Canada got the games.
Ameirca has had the games twice in recent years, the last time in Atlanta which was if I remember, not altogether well received.Methinks the US is being a little greedy, however Canada sounds a brilliant idea!!..
For those that live in Chicago, or have ever lived in Chicago...you have no idea what political corruption is and how Chicago and the state of Illinois think they flourish in all this corruption.
You can bet that most of the contingency that went from Chicago or DC to Copenhagen are going to profit handsomely should this bet pay off for them.
For anyone not to think Oprah planned all this drama about is Barry going to go or not go, must not be familiar with how the Queen of TV feeds of drama.
as for Barry, he owed many favours to Oprah, the mayor of Chicago, and his pals that put him in office to begin with. This was pay back time.
Most of the locals in the City of Chicago, the suburbs and around the state already feel taxes going higher yet again, all to fund the corruption.
I am from Naperville IL, 24 miles west of the City of Chicago, and only get back every 6 weeks or so, but my entire family is still there. The law firm I hung my shingle is in the Loop across from the MERC.
I think Chicago is now out of the running.
I think Chicago is corrupt - a nice city, that is well run, but for something as large as the Olympics, watch out.
The games in LA were great. Atlanta kinda sucked. And the winter Olympics were in Utah, which wasn't so bad.
I think today's vote, Chicago the first elimated, basically was a "not this time U.S." from the other members of the committee.
Can't blame them.
I'm glad the IOC gave America the toss so early on. I've been to Chicago several times and it is not that great of a city. The entire city needs renovating. From an outsiders perspective, it would look very poor if the Olympics were held in Chicago, and I think the IOC agrees. Chicago? lol really Obama? It's one of the worst metros in this country. Reading about the disappointment of egotistical Chicagoans expecting no less than an American Olympics was extremely pleasing to me. My vote goes to Rio. At least they have culture to offer. Madrid would be cool too
The beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro will be hosting the games in 2016.
Good for Rio! Would be fun to go to the games there.
South America deserves getting on the map!!!!
It had to be Rio. The IOC is committed to bringing the games to every continent and so long as Brazil had the desire, the stability, and the money, they were the choice from the beginning because South America has never hosted the games before while the US has hosted eight games, more than any other country. Beyond that, the IOC is already restricted by what countries can reasonably host winter games so the US will have more opportunities than many other countries in the future.
With the football World Cup in S. Africa next year and now this it seems that finally we are beginning to see the biggest sporting events truly opened up worldwide. It can only be a good thing surely.
I'm very happy for Rio. It's a great city. Certainly more sublime than Chicago.
Rio is an excellent choice, but do we really have to bash all the disappointed Chicagoans and their city?
Really? When we've got El Salvador?
PS. Please tell me it's October already.
I will not hear Chicago bashed.
It was very important in my sexual history.
HA!! A Brazilian once told me:
"If you want culture you go to Paris. If you want sex you go to Rio." The city is awash in lust and longing
Well, I went to Paris ... and I got kulchuh.
And I went to Rio on Lake Michigan ... where I got a loaf of bread and the staff o' life, and a damn fine weekend.
I'm happy that it's taking place in South America for the first time. I've been to Rio and it's really quite an experience. My first thoughts were how horrible the crime rate is there. I won't be attending so I hope it's a smashing success without incident.
I was one of many who were opposed to the games being hosted in NYC.
Alas, A Lass, All ass.
Have to admit that I expected Rio, but I feel a loyalty to Chicago, best blow job I ever had.
Damn you, you weren't supposed to tell, "Ben.":biggrin1:
Jeebus, how eerie.
